Phipps Arch
Utah Rt. 12 between Escalante and Boulder is, in the author’s opinion the most scenic drive in the State. It is also the only highway which crosses the Escalante River. Park at this crossing and hike downstream on the Escalante River to the first large canyon on the right (Phipps Canyon). Hike up this Canyon to the second side canyon on the left, then go up this canyon, climbing the cliff on the left side of the canyon to the top, where the arch is located. The arch has a span of 85 ft.
