This arch is located in Big Bend National Park in west Texas. Driving
west from Park Headquarters turn south on the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive.
After about 7 miles, the road makes a big loop and turns east, passing the Sotol
Vista Overlook. After negotiating a switchback, keep an eye out to the
right (north) for the arch off in the distance. A hike over to the arch is
about a half mile. The opening is estimated to be 7 or 8 feet in diameter.
Dr. Crockett’s wife has assigned the informal name of “Dragon Arch”
