He stalks the city at night, a mysterious figure locked in combat with deadly Deathstalkers, the nightmarish Ninja-Zombie army of the mysterious BARON CADAVER. JASON SMYTHE is a special forces veteran who created the masked identity of NIGHTMASTER to wage war against the forces of Cadaver. By chance, the Superior RADION stumbled across their shadow war, nearly losing his life in the process. His existence now known to the hero community, Jason became a reluctant ally to the Superiors and was even involved in Scorpios' WORLDWAR. At that time he had taken on an apprentice, one AARON PIERCE who blackmailed Jason into becoming his mentor by threatening to reveal his identity. Aaron was severley injured in the Worldwar by the deadly and nearly mindless URSA, prompting Jason to drop out of active duty and concentrate on giving Aaron the training he needed. Aaron eventually assumed the mantle of the EAGLE.
Recently, Jason became active again and created a covert agency in cooperation with the US government. They're code-named HIRED GUNS and take on missions that need to be handled with a heavier hand than the super-heroes are willing to wield.
