NCC-1701/7 - Destroyed

Ship / class history:

Sleek underwater reconnaissance vehicle carried aboard some Federation starships. The aquashuttle was specially designed to travel from a starship's hangar deck through space to a planet possessing a watery surface. There the craft could travel easily on the surface of the water or underwater as a submersible. The ship had a crew complement of about 9 persons and was equipped with two forward mounted phaser emitters. In 2269, on stardate 5499.9, an aquashuttle with registry number NCC-1701/7 was used by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise to explore the surface of the planet Argo. During that mission, the aquashuttle encountered a large and powerful sur-snake resulting in the craft's destruction. ("The Ambergris Element").

NCC-1701/10 Copernicus- Active

Ship / class history:

Long-range shuttlecraft, carried aboard the Federation starship U.S.S. Enterprise. In 2269 on stardate 4187.3, Commander Spock, Lieutenant Sulu and Lieutenant Uhura used the shuttlecraft Copernicus on a mission to deliver a Slaver stassis box to Starbase 25. They were lured to an almost airless, ice-covered planetoid by the crew of the Kzinti ship the Traitor's Claw. The Kzin took the stassis box, which contained a Slaver espionage-agent's device. Once the device had determined that the Kzin were enemies, it self destructed taking the Kzinti with it. After the incident, Spock and his crew took the Copernicus to a rendezvous with the Enterprise. ("The Slaver Weapon").

NCC-1701/12- Active

Ship / class history:

Off-ship vehicle carried in and deployed from the hangar decks of Federation starships. The heavy shuttlecraft is larger than the Galileo shuttlecraft and was better suited to travel though turbulent atmospheres and space-born energy disturbances such as ion storms. In 2269 on stardate 4978.5, Harcourt Fenton Mudd abducted Nurse Chapel and stole a heavy shuttlecraft (Registry number NCC-1701/12) in order to escape incarceration on board the U.S.S. Enterprise. Mudd took Chapel and the vehicle to a rocky class-M world. Shortly after landing, a huge rock-like creature smashed the craft. ("Mudd's Passion").

This type of craft was referred to simply as a shuttlecraft in the episode, but it is termed a "Heavy" Shuttlecraft here, due to its size and bulky design and for lack of a definitive name.

NCC-1701/R6- Not active

Ship / class history:

An open-topped Federation vehicle carried aboard starships and used for reconnaissance missions on planets with watery surfaces. The scouter-gig was a powered boat which could be used to deploy underwater divers and carry out small area visual searches. In 2269, on stardate 5499.9, the U.S.S. Enterprise deployed a scouter-gig (Registry number NCC-1701/R6) to the planet Argo. Lieutenant Commander Scott led a team that used the craft to search for Captain Kirk and Commander Spock after they went missing following the destruction of the Enterprise's Aquashuttle by an Argo sur-snake. ("The Ambergris Element").

It was not clear how the scouter-gig was deployed from the Enterprise, since it clearly couldn't travel through space with passengers. It was only 20 feet long, so it may have simply been transported down via a cargo transporter.

VULCAN DESERT FLYER:

Ship / class history:

Vulcan Desert Flyer. Design of small hovercraft used on Vulcan circa 2237. This design accomodated about six persons and was used for routine personnel transportation. The Vulcan flyer was the preferred means of conveyance when venturing into desert areas since it could safely fly over such hazards as the aggressive le-Matya and various carnivorous plant species. ("Yesteryear").
