"The Hero"

January 11, 1985

Review:

At Science Frontiers, lab technician Reggie and other workers are attacked by men claiming to be from the Resistance and demanding to get to Nathan Bates. They shoot up the lab and threaten the scientists, until one technician manages to set off the alarm. In the scuffle the leader is slightly wounded by a guard as they make their escape.

Kyle lies in his bed dreaming while Elizabeth practises using her powers, turning the light and radio on and off using mind control. She practises lifting the bed and the still sleeping Kyle, but drops the bed when she is distracted by news of the attempt on Nathan's life from the radio. Kyle is tormented by Nathan's shooting and Elizabeth attempts to comfort him.

Photos of Mike, Juliet, and Ham are on the front page of every paper, blaming them for the attack at Science Frontiers. The group decide to split up to discover the truth. While Ham goes to check out other Resistance groups in the area, Robin is assigned the task of going to see George Caniff, the owner of an underground newspaper, in order to set the record straight.

At the Visitor Legation, Diana confirms that her operative is in place, and has made contact with someone that he hopes can lead him to the Resistance. When the men who attacked the lab arrive, Diana believes them to be Resistance members, but is reassured by Charles - their leader is Lt. James, an expert in covert operations. Charles' plan is to turn the people against the Resistance through these attacks.

Lt. James assures Charles that all went well, and shows him that the only injury was a small scratch on his arm. Charles and Diana plan to reach Nathan, whom Diana believes is alive - he has told her that he wears a device on his wrist which releases the red-dust toxin into the atmosphere the moment his pulse stops beating.

Reggie is taken blindfolded to the Resistance Headquarters below Club Creole and interrogated by Julie. Though he is frightened, he tells her that he saw the cut on Lt. James arm, and that it was bleeding green blood!

Nathan remains in a coma at Science Frontiers, and Mr. Chiang takes command. In a meeting with Charles and Diana, Mr. Chiang informs them that he is merely speaking for Nathan, who does not trust the Visitors. Charles reveals a new computer program - a computer generated image of Nathan which they can program to speak. Mr. Chiang allows them to use this new program to broadcast 'Nathan' on television.

Robin goes to Caniff Printing and informs George Caniff that the Resistance had nothing to do with the attempt on Nathan's life. There she meets John Lane, a reporter for the Phoenix Post. While there, Nathan's men raid Caniff Printing and arrest everyone. When Robin is being roughed up, John jumps one of the men and is knocked out. Everyone is taken to the back room, but George's wife and son manage to escape.

The Resistance members are shocked when 'Nathan' appears on TV with the announcement that known Resistance sympathizers are being arrested and will be executed at the rate of one per day until Mike, Juliet, and Ham surrender. Ham wishes Nathan dead, prompting an attack from Kyle. After Mike and Chris break them up, they realize that they must work together to find and rescue the hostages.

Robin reassures George that everything will be all right, and that he will be back with his family in 48 hours. She knows, though, that this is not true, and confides her fears in John. Ham, meanwhile, meets with a police officer who confirms that the hostages are not being held in any city facility.

When Mr. Chiang arrives at Caniff Printing, he forces the six hostages to choose numbers for their order of execution. Robin gets #3. George picks second last and gets #1, but John tells Mr. Chiang that he got #1 in order to buy some time for George, because George has a family.

Mike finds Mrs. Caniff and brings her to Resistance Headquarters. She tells Julie that all of the hostages are still at the printing house, and Juliet promises to rescue them.

Meanwhile, Elias and Willie have already headed to Caniff Printing and see Robin inside. Willie is nervous and wants to head back to Club Creole immediately, but Elias insists on checking out a Visitor platform being erected outside the store. He is spotted and raises his gun, but the Visitors turn the gun on the platform, a disintegrator, and Elias is instantly vaporized. Willie screams in terror and tries to run towards Elias, but he is seen and has to flee. Robin witnesses Elias' death and turns to John for support, and they share a kiss.

George confronts John about switching numbers. John refuses to give the number back, and insists that he wants to buy time for George and Robin, as this will give his life meaning.

Willie returns to Resistance Headquarters shocked and numb. Mike, Julie, and Ham consider giving themselves up. Ham drags Willie to his feet and forces him to confront Elias' death. Willie gets under control and manages to help the others by providing details about the set-up at Caniff Printing.

Aboard the L.A. Mothership, Charles and Lydia enjoy an evening of Napoleon Brandy and a bowl of worms. Lydia flirts with Charles, who says that he remembers her from the Academy. Diana arrives, dressed to kill, and is surprised to see that Lydia is also there - the brandy was a gift from Diana. Charles wants more information on the Starchild, and Diana explains that Robin's DNA is unusual and easily manipulated - she has been unable to find another human with the same genetic makeup to duplicate the experiment.

The Resistance plan their attack on Caniff Printing. Using a diversion, and with Mike as bait, they plan to rescue the hostages. Mike wears a throat mic to give a code signal to the others when he is ready. The freedom fighters split up to begin their assault.

Outside of Caniff Printing, Mr. Chiang assembles with Charles, Diana, and Lydia. Nathan's man takes John outside, after he says goodbye to a tearful Robin, and tells her that he wishes they had more time together. John stoically puts on his sunglasses and walks out into the sunlight. He is led onto the platform next to the disintegrator where he refuses a blindfold.

The Resistance members are in place, and the throat mic is tested. As Mike heads towards Caniff Printing, Julie, Ham, and Elizabeth attempt to disable the guard at the buildings back door. When they are unable to reach him without warning the others, Elizabeth attempts to use her powers to disable him but cannot feel the build-up of energy necessary to do so. In desperation, Juliet jumps out to shoot the guard. He turns to fire upon her, and Elizabeth is then able to fling out her powers and knock the guard unconscious. Ham and Julie enter the back of the building - while Ham disables one guard, George knocks out the other and the hostages are rescued.

Mike surrenders to the Visitors and is led to the top of the disintegrator platform. He jokes with Charles, saying "What a way to go", which is the signal for Kyle and Willie. They roar into the square in Kyle's truck, while Willie throws smoke bombs from a box in the back of the truck. Diana fires a burst of laser at them, but Mike manages to push John into the truck, where he lands hand-first on the box of smoke bombs. Mike tells Kyle to leave, and struggles with the guards.

Diana raises her gun to fire, but Charles insists that he wants to take Mike on personally. The fight leads into Caniff Printing where Mike has Charles pinned to the ground, until Charles spits venom onto Mike. The venom hits him mostly in the forehead, and he lays stunned on the floor but manages to kick Charles over the counter. When Diana arrives firing her laser pistol, Mike escapes out the back door.

Back at Resistance Headquarters, Ham and Kyle resolve their differences. John decides to stay with the Resistance. John notices that his hand is bleeding, and quickly moves to hide it from the others. John's hand is bleeding green blood... he is a Visitor.

"The Betrayal"

Review:

As a Visitor shuttle flies over the city, Willie makes his way to an abandoned building to meet with Fifth Columnist Simon, who warns Willie of a secret arms shipment coming into the open city. Simon's fears of being followed are warranted, as two troopers arrive and open fire. Simon is killed, and Willie is shot but manages to escape into the street.

Kyle, watching 'Nathan's latest television broadcast, suspects that the figure on TV is not his father. He knows that the extent of Nathan's injuries were such that he would not be able to appear so healthy. Kyle leaves to investigate.

At the Visitor legation, John meets with Diana in an attempt to get a transfer - he knows that Diana was willing to let him die at the hands of the disintegrator. Diana refuses and demands that John complete his mission - impregnate Robin Maxwell or die. Diana also demands the location of the Resistance Headquarters, but John refuses to tell her on the grounds that she may decide to blow it up with him still inside.

Willie makes his way back to the Resistance. He has suffered internal injuries; Juliet attempts to remove the shrapnel, but doesn't know enough about Visitor physiognomy. She sends Mike and Ham out to get a Visitor doctor.

Outside of a Visitor field hospital, Ham and Mike kidnap a young doctor, using his armband to identify him.

Aboard the Mothership, Charles manipulates a new video image of Nathan when he is informed by Lydia that various laser weaponry that he had shipped to L.A. in crates marked "Medical Supplies" has arrived. Diana is shocked that Charles and Lydia have so openly broken her agreement with Nathan. They are interrupted by a trooper bearing a message from Mr. Chiang - Nathan has come out of his coma. Charles heads to L.A. to meet with Mr. Chiang.

Robin arrives at John's house just as he has removed his synthetic 'human' eyes. Hurriedly replacing them, he greets her with a kiss and attempts to force her into a sexual relationship. Robin leaves in tears, telling him that she loves him but that she is not yet ready to make love.

When John returns to his house, he finds Diana waiting for him. She expresses curiosity about John's attractiveness to women, and we are left with Diana and John sharing a kiss.

At the Resistance Headquarters, Willie is in such agony that Julie decides to give him some morphine. She is interrupted when Mike and Ham arrive with the Visitor doctor, Howie, that they have kidnapped. Howie warns Julie that morphine is poisonous to Visitors. He recommends that he give Willie a blood transfusion while he talks Julie through the operation that will be necessary to save Willie's life. Juliet manages to remove the damaged portions of his internal organs, and Howie gives Willie 24 hours to pull through.

Robin, meanwhile, returns to John's house and apologizes to him. She agrees to stay with him.

Diana and Charles meet with Mr. Chiang to discuss Nathan's situation. Mr. Chiang knows that Nathan will react strongly when he learns of the computer image that they have been using of him. Charles recommends that Mr. Chiang kill Nathan, in which case the open city will belong to Chiang.

Robin and John rush back to Resistance Headquarters when they hear about Willie. John acts mistrustful of Howie, trying to implant doubts in the others of what Howie actually did to Willie. Howie feels that he recognizes John, but can't place him. Willie's condition rapidly deteriorates, and he begins convulsing. Howie attempts to resuscitate him, but fails, and Willie dies. While the others gather around the stretcher in tears, Elizabeth panics - she stands over Willie and touches him. Her power radiates outward and allows his heart to start beating again.

Witnessing Elizabeth's strange powers, Howie realizes that she is the Starchild, and the Resistance members are left with the decision of what to do with him. While John continues to attempt to sow doubts about Howie's intentions, Howie reveals that he is a Fifth Columnist and informs the Resistance of the arms shipments that Charles has been making to the hospital. He agrees to help them to destroy the shipments.

At Science Frontiers, Kyle - disguised as an orderly - manages to get Nathan. The elder Bates reveals that there are a series of underground tanks below the city with concussion detonators that are set to go off if the Visitors try to take the city by force. When Kyle reveals that Mr. Chiang does not know that he is there, Nathan realizes that Chiang has betrayed him and warns Kyle to leave. Kyle, however, refuses to leave without his father, and the two are reconciled.

Howie takes Ham and Mike on a reconnaissance mission to the hospital, where the three see the most recent laser shipments being unloaded. Howie reveals that the Visitors are also storing liquid xenon at the facility, which is used as fuel for their weapons.

Kyle and Nathan attempt to get out of Science Frontiers. Nathan is heavily sedated and still hooked up to his IV, but they manage to make it to the elevator - which opens to reveal Mr. Chiang. Chiang pulls a gun, but before he can fire Nathan lunges towards him, taking two bullets in the chest. Nathan's last words to Kyle are "Get out of here" and Kyle steps backward into the elevator just as Chiang fires another shot at the closing elevator doors.

Aboard the Mothership, Diana receives a partial message from John and prepares to leave for the surface.

In Visitor uniforms, Juliet, Mike, Ham, Robin, John and Howie infiltrate the hospital where the weapons and liquid xenon are being kept. After Ham and Mike knock out the guards, they join Julie and head into the interior of the building. John and Howie drag the two unconscious guards into a storage room. When Howie finally recognizes John as one of Diana's henchmen, John knocks him unconscious as well and takes his weapon.

At Science Frontiers, Mr. Chiang relaxes at Nathan's desk, when the door opens and Kyle appears. He lunges at Mr. Chiang who pulls a gun. Kyle manages to knock the gun from Chiang's hand, where it falls to the floor in front of the desk. Chiang dives for the gun, and in the ensuing melee the gun goes off, killing Chiang instantly. Kyle quickly escapes.

Ham, Julie, and Mike are able to infiltrate the back area of the hospital by bluffing about a maintenance check. Julie sets the controls so that the xenon will boil, and Ham uses his gun to blow the other systems so that the coolant will not reactivate.

Waiting at the front of the hospital with the ambulance that they arrived in, Robin overhears John telling a Visitor guard that the Resistance members are in the xenon control room. When he comes outside, he reveals to Robin that he is a Visitor. Robin naturally loses control - she cannot believe that she has been duped yet again.

Juliet, Ham, and Mike are able to make their way out of the building via an alternate route, and arrive at the ambulance to find that Robin is being held captive by John, whose Visitor skin is revealed behind a gouge that Robin has made in his face. The Resistance members are forced to put away their weapons, but Howie has awakened in the storage room and arrives in time to shoot and kill John. Lifting Robin up quickly, the freedom fighters jump into the ambulance and quickly escape - Howie, however, decided to stay behind, as he feels that he can better help by being on the inside. Diana arrives just as the Resistance are making their escape, and Howie points out the fallen John as the only witness to whatever had happened.

At Resistance Headquarters, Robin makes the decision to make a new start in Chicago. Packing her bags, she bids goodbye to all, including Elizabeth who has decided to stay in L.A., and heads out with Ham and Chris as her escorts and bodyguards.

"The Rescue"

February 01, 1985

Review:

With L.A. no longer an open city, the Visitors unleash a reign of terror, alighting the city and hunting down all humans. In an abandoned burned-out building, a family - husband Alan, wife Joanne, and son Johnny - are in hiding, with Joanne in the first stages of labour. Alan leaves his family in the building in an attempt to find a doctor.

On board the Mothership, Lt. James reports to Diana that the city should be under Visitor control within hours. Diana assigns James the duty of checking out the vicinity of Club Creole, and offers him the post of her "right hand man".

Willie, walking down the street, is grabbed by Alan. Luckily Kyle is nearby and grabs Alan. Alan tells the Resistance members that he is trying to find Juliet Parrish. The Resistance members, hiding in the secret room below Club Creole, decide to stay in their current location, as being less risky than trying to find a new headquarters. When Kyle and Willie arrive with Alan, Julie recognizes him as the brother of a man with whom she went to medical school. Alan explains where his wife is, and Julie and Kyle agree to go with him in the van to help. Waiting in the abandoned building, Johnny vows to protect his mother from the Visitors.

Lydia, meanwhile, is upset that neither she nor Charles were informed before the invasion of L.A. She threatens to charge Diana with insubordination. As Lydia leaves to report to Charles, Diana informs her that she has already sent a progress report to the Leader.

Lydia discovers that Charles has intercepted Diana's message and is already aware of the situation. He reveals his plan to Lydia: because Charles is a direct descendant of the house of Rahman, he can choose any woman he wants to be his wife, and that woman cannot refuse him. Once married, she must serve the cause by bearing children, on the home world. Charles plans to marry Diana and then send her away for this purpose.

At the Resistance headquarters, Willie practices memory skills with Elizabeth. She is able to repeat a prior conversation word for word, including the person's voice. Mike spots a Visitor patrol outside, and Elizabeth warns the group that they should go. The Visitors, led by Lt. James, break in through the previously concealed secret door in Club Creole's kitchen and attack. As the freedom fighters scatter, Mike informs them to meet at Griffith Park. Gathering weapons, Elizabeth halts Lt. James attack by uses her powers to collapse the ceiling, giving the Resistance members time to escape.

Diana is summoned to Charles' quarters, where she reports on Lt. James failed attempt to destroy the Resistance. She is shocked to learn the reason for her summons - the announcement of her betrothal to Charles. Diana refuses to wed, and swears that she would rather die than to marry Charles.

Alan, Julie, and Kyle arrive at the abandoned building. While Kyle stands guard, Julie examines Joanne and determines that she still has hours to go before she will deliver her baby.

Later that day, the Resistance members meet at Griffith Park to regroup. Knowing the Julie and Kyle will walk into a trap if they attempt to return to their former headquarters, Elizabeth (prompted by Mike and Willie) uses her memory powers to recreate the conversation that Julie had with Alan. Armed with the knowledge of their location, Mike sets out to retrieve them, while directing the others to move their headquarters to an abandoned movie studio. Arriving there, the freedom fighters are disturbed by noises within one of the buildings, only to discover that there is a dog, named Ramsey, living there.

Diana is interrupted in her quarters by two Visitors, sent by Charles, to prepare her for her wedding ceremony. Diana refuses to co-operate, and threatens to inform the Leader. Lydia, however, tells Diana that the Leader has already sent his blessing to the couple.

Later that day, Diana prepares a bag as a loyal Ensign, Lewis, arrives to announce that her shuttle is prepared. Diana tries to reward Lewis for his loyalty but he refuses. As Diana attempts to board her shuttle on the docking bay, she is stopped by Charles, who reminds her that the punishment for trying to abandon her groom is death. Lewis, working with Charles all along, escorts Diana back to her quarters.

While Kyle remains at watch, Julie decides to bring the family back to Resistance headquarters. However, a Visitor patrol led by Lt. James stops to check their van and in doing so spots Johnny inside the building. Kyle is forced to shoot the trooper. The patrol covers the front of the building, blocking any escape for those inside.

On board the Mothership, Charles visits Diana as she enjoys her ritual bath. Charmed by her beauty, Diana tempts him. When Charles leaves, ceremonial eels are placed in Diana's bath.

Lydia waits for Charles in his quarters, and is shocked when he announces that he has decided to keep Diana in the fleet. Lydia wants to assassinate Diana, and realizes that Charles had gone to Diana's ritual bath and been tempted. Charles gruffly dismisses Lydia, who leaves his office to see Marta and to pick up Charles' marriage potion. Marta also gives Lydia a bottle a cat poison, and a new perfume, "Essence of Rodent Musk".

At the new Resistance headquarters on the movie ranch, Willie stands guard while the others begin cleaning and setting up equipment. A Visitor patrol is seen outside and everyone hides. When the Visitors come inside the building, they see only Ramsey and believe that it was the dog making noise. Elizabeth credits Ramsey for saving them.

Lt. James gives the Resistance 5 minutes to give themselves up. Kyle uses this time to try to explain to Johnny the reasons behind the Resistance. As the time limit comes up, Julie comes up with a plan - Kyle will pretend to give up and get to the van; while Alan lobs a grenade at the Visitors, Julie and the others will attempt to reach the van.

Kyle steps outside the building with his hands up, and is told to lay down his weapon. As he complies, Mike suddenly begins firing at the Visitors from the rooftop of a neighbouring building. As all Visitor attention is focused on Mike, Kyle retrieves his gun and jumps into the van. As Julie shepherds the others inside the van, Alan throws a grenade at one of the Visitor jeeps, setting it ablaze. Mike fakes being hit ... and when Kyle arrives at the back of the building with the van, he jumps inside.

Aboard the Mothership, a lavish buffet is laid out for the wedding of Charles and Diana. The two are mated, and Diana seals the wedding by biting the head off of a ceremonial mouse. Lydia leaves the ceremony and goes to Charles' quarters, where two steaming cups of liquid, engraved with the names of the couple, have been prepared. Lydia takes out the cat poison and pours it into the red cup, leaving the white cup untouched.

Lydia arrives back at the ceremony just as Charles is inviting the guests to partake of the wedding buffet. She congratulates the couple, and both Charles and Diana comment on the new Rat Musk scent that she is wearing. The couple then leave the reception.

Arriving in Charles' quarters, Diana comments that she is reminded of Lydia, and Charles agrees that the scent that Lydia was wearing seemed to linger on them. Charles hands Diana the red cup, a gift from Lydia, but she offers the cup back to him, with the words "Take this, as you take me - forever". They trade cups and drink. Almost immediately Charles begins retching, and realizes that he has been poisoned.

At the ranch, Joanne and Alan decide to name their new baby 'Victoria', in honour of the Victory that they know will come.

Back on the Mothership, Lydia arrives in Charles' quarters, where he seems to be relaxing in a chair. When Lydia spins the chair around to get a good look at Charles, however, she finds only a shrunken cadaver. As Lydia screams in horror, Diana arrives to have her arrested for murder.

"The Champion"

February 08, 1985

Review:

A police car chases Mike and Kyle, en route to deliver an arsenal of machine guns to the Tucson Resistance. When the two men pull their truck over to the side of the road, they are made to put their hands atop their heads and the officer, Deputy Karnes, demands half of whatever they are carrying. Mike pretends to comply, but manages to kick the deputy's gun out of his hand. There is a brief scuffle and then Mike and Kyle are able to escape in the truck. The police car pursues them off the road and into a small pond. The officers begin shooting and Mike and Kyle respond with their own gunfire. The officers are then caught in a cross-fire when a person begins firing from behind them. The cops flee the scene in their car.

Mike and Kyle are introduced to their saviour - Kathy Courtney, who owns the ranch they are on. Kathy explains that the police force, led by Sheriff "Big John" Roland, is collaborating with the Visitors: most guns in the area have been confiscated and the people have given up hope. Mike offers to trade Kathy some of their weapons in exchange for the use of Kathy's tractor.

On board the Mothership, Diana visits Lydia in her cell and offers her the option of suicide by scorpion sting. Lydia is unable to get to Diana due to a restraining device around her waist. Diana leaves the scorpion with Lydia and tells her that she will return in the morning.]

While Kathy prepares dinner, she explains a little more of their situation: when the Visitor forces first arrived the people of the town fought them in ernest, until Kathy's husband was killed and the fight left them. Now the human collaborators are demanding "taxes" for the Visitors in the form of food and horses, which Kathy refuses to give. The other ranchers refuse to fight because they have no leader. Jessie, Kathy's daughter, admires Mike and Kyle as 'lizard killers'.

At the Desert Dollar saloon, Deputy Karnes reports in to Roland, who demands that more pressure be applied to convince Kathy to co-operate with them.

Diana returns to Lydia's cell to discover that she has eaten the scorpion. Lydia flings the stinger at Diana, and Diana then orders Lydia to be prepared for trial.

As Kyle begins unloading Kathy's promised guns and ammunition, Kathy tries to convince Mike to stay behind to lead a Resistance party. Mike refuses, until shots are fired at the house. Mike returns fire from behind some bushes, while Kyle returns from the barn and Jessie fires from the house. When they hear the unknown attackers leave, Mike decides to stay with the Courtney's long enough to organize the local resistance, and Kyle heads out to Tucson alone.

Diana gives Lydia no chance to speak in her own defence, and Lydia is convicted of the murder of Charles. The sentence is death.

The next morning, Mike and Kathy investigate the area of the shooting. Mike asks Kathy to gather all her neighbours together for a meeting that evening. A skyfighter above spots the couple; Kathy is knocked from her horse, but Mike manages to lead the fighter on a chase which results in the skyfighter crashing into a mountain.

A shuttle arrives on the Mothership just as Diana is preparing for Lydia's execution. An ensign appears to announce the arrival of Inspector-General Philip, who was briefed on Lydia's case while in transit. Diana attempts to continue with Lydia's execution but Philip arrives to halt it before the disintegrator is fully armed. Diana is surprised at the resemblance between Philip and his brother Martin, who Diana says saved her life when she was incarcerated on Earth. Philip decides to free Lydia until he can conduct an impartial investigation into Charles' death.

Kathy sets up a meeting for the ranchers at her house, but only one person attends: Joe, a one-legged rancher. They decide to proceed with plans for a resistance.

After Philip reviews Lydia's case, he decides that she deserves a new trial. He determines that she did not intend to kill Charles, and that in fact her intent was to kill Diana. As is her right as the accused, her new trial would be "trial by combat" between herself and Diana. Lydia heartily agrees to the combat.

In the Sheriff's office, Deputy Karnes identifies Mike from a Visitor wanted poster. Roland contacts Lt. James, who leaves immediately for the town.

At Resistance Headquarters in L.A., the Resistance members continue to move in equipment and make the place liveable. When Willie turns from his second-story lookout, he stumbles into a loose railing and falls to the floor below. Elizabeth, thinking quickly, uses her powers to move some mattresses underneath him, which break his fall. After making sure that Willie is OK, Julie returns to her monitoring of a Fifth Column transmission, which alerts her that Lt. James is on his way to get Mike. Julie attempts to locate the two men, and is interrupted by the arrival of Kyle. Informed of the situation, they decide to head back to Kathy's ranch to help Mike: Julie is forced to stay at the H.Q. due to a pulled muscle in her neck, but Kyle, Willie, and Elizabeth take the vehicle and head back to the ranch.

On board the Mothership, Diana and Lydia prepare for combat.

At Kathy's ranch, Joe and Jessie clean their weapons in preparation for a Visitor attack. Jessie hints to Mike that she would like him to stay, to take care of Kathy.

Diana and Lydia's combat begins. Both are given a long staff which ends in a curved metal edge. As they fight, Lydia knocks Diana's staff from her hands and as they wrestle on the floor, she loses her own staff. Philip watches their progress until he is interrupted by a Visitor clad in a white lab coat, who shows him something in a valise. Lydia, meanwhile, begins choking Diana, rips some of the 'skin' from Diana's face, and spits venom into her opponent's eyes. With Diana momentarily blinded, Lydia grabs a new staff and prepares to impale Diana -- until Philip stops the fight.

Outside the Sheriff's office, Joe witnesses Lt. James shuttle land. Roland offers James a rat as a peace offering, which James accepts. Joe leaves as Lt. James goes inside Roland's office. Joe immediately heads to Kathy's place to warn Donovan, but discovers that Mike and Kathy have gone to fetch the horses. Joe tells Jessie what has transpired in town, and Jessie immediately grabs her gun, gets into Joe's truck, and heads to town.

Kyle, Willie, and Elizabeth arrive at Kathy's ranch - when Joe pulls a gun on Willie, Elizabeth uses her powers to knock the weapon out of his hand. Once Mike and Kathy arrive, Joe informs the group of Jessie's whereabouts, and Mike formulates a plan.

While Lt. James and Roland discuss Donovan's capture, Jessie disables the lasers on the fighter with some well placed shots. As James confronts Jessie, Kathy and Joe arrive pulling the horses in a covered trailer. James send Karnes and another deputy to check the trailer; and they are knocked to the ground when Willie and Elizabeth jump from the back of the truck. Mike arrives on horseback and takes out James before he can shoot. In the meantime, Kyle jumps from his hiding place atop the Desert Dollar and eliminates two more Visitors. Jessie heads for cover behind the van while Joe knocks out Roland with his crutch. While Kyle and Mike deal with the remaining Visitors, Lt. James runs for the fighter and takes off.

The Resistance fighters prepare to leave Kathy's ranch, confident that the ranchers, who now have a leader in Kathy, will be able to stave off another Visitor attack. Jessie asks Mike to stay with them, but he informs her that there are other people who need him, and promises to visit again when the war is over.

With their combat halted, Diana and Lydia get repairs to their 'skin'. Philip reveals that tests have discovered that their were prints on the bottle of cat poison used to kill Charles - but the prints are not Lydia's. He decrees that, until he can figure out what happened, Lydia and Diana will be under the Inter-Guardian Rule - if anything happens to one of them, the blame will automatically fall on the other. They are restored to the ranks they held under Charles: Diana will report to Lydia, and Lydia will report to Philip.

"The Wildcats"

February 15, 1985

Review:

Willie and Elizabeth are chased in their van, which is also carrying a hurt man, by a Visitor laser jeep. As they near a bridge, Kyle jumps out from behind cover and shoots the jeep off the road. Jumping inside the van, the three hurry to reach Julie. They arrive at a ranch-style house, where Julie is caring for the victims of a diphtheria epidemic that has spread throughout their valley. As they enter, she is covering a victim with a blanket -- one man who didn't survive the plague. Julie prescribes ampicillin for the man from the van, only to be told that their supply of the drug is gone. The Resistance leader is told that the Visitors have a supply at their medical storehouse in town, but there are not enough people to raid the facility. Kyle suggests that they radio Mike, still in L.A. to lead a refinery raid, but Julie worries that Mike will not be able to reach the valley in time. When a townswoman suggests the Wildcats, a group of wild kids living in the hills that cannot be trusted, Kyle decides to approach them, and he leaves with Willie.

As they drive through Widows Canyon, Willie and Kyle hear howling, and are stopped by a bunch of teenagers driving various cars and a dune buggy. After slashing his hand to prove that he's not a Visitor, Kyle explains about the diphtheria plague and plan to raid the Visitor storehouse. The Wildcats agree to listen to the Resistance plan.

On the Mothership, Philip reminds Diana and Lydia of their galactic law -- when a Supreme Commander is murdered, his murderer is to be buried with him, and if no murderer can be found, all suspects are judged guilty and accompany the Supreme Commander on his final journey. Charles' burial is set for the next day. The fingerprints on the bottle of cat poison are identified -- a picture of a Visitor appears on the screen, which is then adjusted to show Marta's photo. While Philip leaves to speak to her, Diana and Lydia are placed under house arrest.

Kyle leads the raid on the Visitor medical storehouse. Sending Willie in with an ampicillin request, Kyle and the Wildcats wait at the side of the building. While waiting, Kyle talks with one of the Wildcats, Ellen. He learns that she and her brother, Tony, (the Wildcats leader) had returned home from school to find their parents taken by the Visitors. The other Wildcats had similar situations: Bart lost his parents, and Andy lost his parents and little brother. The ampicillin is loaded into Willie's van, but Kyle notices guards readying on the roof and warns the others of an ambush. After a brief firefight, both the Resistance members and the Wildcats manage to escape.

Back on the Mothership, Marta denies any involvement with Charles' murder, and points out that her fingerprints were on the poison because she is the ships pharmacist. She insists that she admired Charles from afar but had no other interest in him.

At the ranch, the Wildcats and Resistance are in the midst of a celebration, when Juliet discovers that they were given baking powder instead of ampicillin. She knows that the only way this could have happened was if there is a spy among them. While the Wildcats all deny it, Kyle and Julie decide to radio Mike for help.

Mike, in L.A. planning another raid, agrees to fly out to the valley with the necessary ampicillin. Kyle agrees to radio him later with the specifics.

Lt. James reports to Philip that Juliet has been spotted, and obtains permission to go after her. His spy informs him of the Resistance plan to have Donovan meet them at an airstrip. Meanwhile, Diana and Lydia decide to work together to save their lives. Diana tells Lydia that she will handle the specifics while Lydia takes care of their guards.

The Wildcats and Resistance agree to meet at an abandoned airstrip. While waiting for the others to arrive, Ellen flirts with Willie and takes his hand. Willie is obviously flustered, but they are interrupted by the arrival of Tony, Andy and the other Resistance members. Tony and Kyle continue to snipe at each other, and Julie separates them. As they leave to clear the rocks and debris from the runway, Tony notices that Bart is not with them -- but he arrives a moment later.

Marta is put on trial for the murder of Charles. A holovideo of Marta is shown where she states her love of Charles, and that he must die if she cannot have him. Lydia is impressed with Diana's handiwork. Despite Marta's claims of innocence, Philip pronounces her guilty -- she is sentenced to spend eternity with Charles in his sarcophagus. Diana and Lydia exchange pleased smiles.

Back in the valley, the Resistance van runs into a Visitor roadblock. While Kyle, Julie, Bart, and Tony provide covering fire, the others flee into the woods. They all agree to meet at the Wildcats camp. In the woods, Willie sees that Ellen has been captured. Using a tree as a screen, he says something in his mother tongue to the Visitor carrying her; thus distracted, Willie is able to knock him out using a tree branch. Ellen kisses Willie, and confesses that she is falling in love with him. Willie tries to tell her the truth about himself, but Tony arrives in his dune buggy before he can do so. At the roadblock, Lt. James expresses little concern over their failure, as he knows that his spy will inform him of the groups' next move.

That night at the Wildcats camp, Ellen again comes to Willie and gives him a necklace that had belonged to her Grandmother, who had told Ellen to give it to the man she loves. Willie nervously tries to explain who he is, but Ellen doesn't believe him. Finally he is forced to peel back a layer of the pseudo-skin on his arm to prove it. Shocked, Ellen cries and runs out into the night.

Diana goes to visit Oswald, who is preparing Marta's body for Charles' funeral. Diana insists that Oswald ensure that Marta be alive and conscious during the ceremony.

Juliet radios Mike, already in flight, to warn him about their spy. Mike refuses to turn back, and informs Julie that he will be arriving at 6AM. Julie agrees to try to provide him with ground cover. In an equipment shed, Bart and Tony are startled when Willie runs in to inform them that Ellen is missing. They pull their guns on Willie who raises his hands in surrender, and Bart and Tony then see the Visitors skin revealed. Believing Willie is a Visitor spy, they begin questioning him about Ellen. As Tony raises his gun to hit Willie, the others in the group arrive.

Elizabeth begins to sense that Ellen is trapped by a fall that she has taken. When Tony doesn't believe her, he raises his gun in their direction, and Elizabeth uses her powers to knock the three Wildcats backwards into some crates. They all agree to go with Elizabeth to find Ellen, leaving Andy behind at the shed in case Ellen returns. En route, Julie realizes that she has left her medical bag behind. Returning to get in, she catches Andy in radio conversation with the Visitors -- his Walkman is actually a two way radio. Julie cuts his transmission and ties him up, not sympathetic with Andy's explanation that the Visitors have his brother, who is dying of the diphtheria plague, and whom the Visitors promised to release if Andy co-operated with them.

Elizabeth leads the others to a ravine, where Ellen is trapped. She uses her powers to lift Ellen, uninjured, out of the ravine. Elizabeth collapses into Kyle's arms from the strain.

Back at the camp, the Wildcats have a hard time believing that Andy is the traitor, but are finally forced to. Leaving Andy tied and gagged, they try to come up with an alternate plan for their rendezvous with Mike.

The next morning, Kyle and Willie separate from the main group to take out some of the Visitors in a sneak attack. Andy, meanwhile, manages to struggle free of his bonds and jumps into his car. At the airstrip, a group of Visitors arrive and begin firing. While Tony and Bart return fire, Julie and Ellen circle behind the Visitors and take out the remainder. Thinking this is the complete Visitor force, they are shocked to see two more jeeps, a car and a Visitor van all heading towards them. Noting that Mike's plane is already in descent, they have to fight even though they are vastly outnumbered. However, Andy's car suddenly appears on the road and he heads straight for the Visitor vehicles, smashing head on and obliterating them.

Mike parachutes out of the plane, leaving the remaining Visitors to chase it. The Resistance and the Wildcats rush to meet him, while Kyle and Tony shake hands and Ellen apologizes to Willie, telling him that he will always be family to her.

Back on the Mothership, Marta awakens during Charles' funeral service to find herself sharing a double-sized glass sarcophagus with his rotting corpse. Marta beats on the walls of sarcophagus, but her screams of terror cannot be heard as the coffin is sent into space.

Review:

Using information obtained from Robert, a Fifth Columnist, Willie leads Mike and Kyle to the co-ordinates of the Mentamorph, a Visitor device which uses mind control to destroy the will to fight. Unbeknownst to them, the trio are being tracked and watched by Diana aboard the Mothership. Once Robert realizes that the Mentamorph was a trap for the Resistance, he quickly leaves the bridge. Philip and Lydia are initially upset that they were not informed of Diana's plot. While Philip is sickened by Diana's taste for killing others, he admits that he looks forward to Donovan's death, believing that Mike was responsible for Martin's death.

On the street below, Willie, Mike, and Kyle are spotted by a Visitor patrol jeep. Throwing a couple of grenades, they destroy the jeep and its passengers. A little further ahead they spot the Mentamorph, and move forward to destroy it.

On board the Mothership, Robert heads to the weapons centre, where he knocks out the guard and triggers some controls. Opening a panel, he takes out three large white borellium crystals, then heads to his cabin.

Mike begins to have doubts on the ease of their approach, and at that moment the Mentamorph begins pulsing with light. It explodes, and Willie realizes that it was a fake. The trio quickly leave. Diana, meanwhile, is furious that her explosives went off too early, and orders the Mothership lasers set on a five block radius to destroy the Resistance leaders. However, Robert had managed to sabotage the lasers, and the ship is unable to fire. Diana and Philip decide to investigate.

Robert gets his pregnant wife, Glenda, and leads her to the shuttle bay with a few of their belongings. Philip and Diana trail them to the shuttle bay, unable to shoot because they may damage the crystals which are needed for the Motherships lasers to fire. Philip orders all skyfighters recalled to protect the Mothership. He decides to follow the shuttle (which is equipped with a homing device), while Diana offers to provide a suitable escort/guard for Philip.

Mike and the others make it to an abandoned warehouse after a chase through the city streets. Once inside, Willie apologizes for the situation, believing that it was his fault. Despite Mike and Kyle's reassurances to the contrary, Willie still feels alone and cast out. He wishes for Elizabeth, knowing she would understand him better, and is reminded that both she and Juliet are at a scientific research station in the north.

Diana and Philip arrive in the Mothership gymnasium in time to see Angela disable a larger Visitor attacker. Philip stops her from continuing the fight when her opponent is down, and fights her again, showing his skills as a combat master. Philip agrees to accept Angela as his escort. When Philip leaves, Angela reveals to Diana that Philip was her combat trainer at the academy. When Angela killed a cadet during training, Philip had her retired, so that she can never be an officer. She hates Philip for this. Diana invites Angela to her cabin to discuss the situation. Once there, she offers Angela a battlefield commission, if Angela were to kill Philip and put the blame on Mike Donovan.

Walking outside the warehouse, Kyle and Mike discuss ways to ease Willie's anguish. While they are talking, they see a damaged shuttle coming in for a crash landing. They head to the site, to discover Robert and Glenda emerging from the vehicle. Robert identifies himself and informs them that he set Diana's explosives as soon as he realized that she had set up a trap for the Resistance. Kyle and Mike agree to take Robert and Glenda to the warehouse.

Philip and Angela, along with some shock troopers, arrive at the crash site. Using some infra glasses, Philip is able to track Robert's footprints on the concrete, and they begin following. Angela uses the time to reveal to Philip the rumours of Martin's involvement in the Fifth Column, which Philip refuses to believe. Angela reveals also that her people were wiped out by the Visitors as a child, and that it was Philip who saved her and placed her in the Academy.

At the warehouse, Robert realizes that Glenda is about to give birth. They tell Willie that their child will need a 'wantu' -- similar to a Godfather or role model. Willie suggests Mike, but Robert and Glenda tell him that they want Willie to be their wantu. Willie is thrilled. While Kyle stands watch at the warehouse receiving doors, Mike helps to deliver Glenda's . . . egg. Stunned, he follows Willie's instructions and takes the egg to a nearby table, where he and Willie help the shell to break. The child is born, and Kyle returns to the group to toast the occasion with some canteen water.

Aboard the Mothership, Diana calls Lydia to her cabin and plants the idea of Philip's death in her head. Entranced by the idea, Lydia orders Diana to have it done, not knowing that Diana has made a tape of Lydia's command.

When Kyle heads back to the loading doors, he sees Philip and his troops arrive. He calls Mike, who believes he is seeing Martin. Mike takes a step outside, only to have Philip fire at him. Robert attempts to go out with the crystals, believing that this is all Philip wants, but Mike refuses to let him go. Robert informs Mike and Kyle of Philip's identity. Just then, Philip shouts out to Mike that he is there to kill Mike for killing his brother. Since there is no other exit from the warehouse, Willie takes Glenda and her baby son to the back room and attempts to make them comfortable. Realizing that the baby is hungry, Willie searches for and finds a mouse to feed to the child. The Visitors and Resistance continue to exchange gunfire.

Lydia, meanwhile, checks in on Diana, who assures her that Angela requested the mission and the Lydia's orders to kill Philip are being carried out.

Angela orders some laser jeeps to the warehouse, but Philip refuses to let them fire because they could destroy the crystals, and because he says he wants to kill Mike with his bare hands. Philip is consistently appalled by Angela's thirst for killing.

Robert panics, thinking that his child is going to be killed, and runs out to surrender with the crystals. Angela shoots him in the arm before Philip angrily stops her. He watches in bewilderment as Mike risks his life to drag Robert to safety. Robert drops the crystals in his fall, and Philip runs out to retrieve them. He orders Angela to prepare for an attack, but orders her and the troops not to harm the child.

Willie remains in the back room with Glenda and the baby, who is fearful for her child's future. Willie attempts to explain 'faith' to Glenda, and they discuss their hopes for the future.

The Visitors mount their attack, and one trooper almost makes it into the warehouse. Mike and Kyle return fire, and Kyle is shot in the shoulder and knocked backwards. As he struggles to maintain his footing, he is shot again in the leg. Mike finally manages to kill the Visitors attacking Kyle, and drags Kyle back into safety. Mike kills the trooper at one laser jeep, but another arrives.

The shooting briefly stops as both sides regroup. Angela tries to tempt Philip into killing Donovan, but Philip is getting more and more disgusted with Angela's lust for blood. Philip instead offers Mike a deal: unarmed combat between the two of them. Mike insists that Diana killed Martin, but Philip does not believe it. Mike agrees to the combat, as long as everyone in the warehouse gets to go free if he wins. Philip agrees, and orders Angela to obey his order if he is killed.

Mike and Philip begin their combat, during which Mike tries to convince Philip that Martin was his friend. Philip grabs a pipe, but Mike manages to get it away from him and hits Philip several times, knocking him to the concrete. He has Philip at a disadvantage, but refuses to kill him, and instead helps him up. Angela then pulls her weapon and reveals Diana's plan, Diana's role in Martin's death, as well as her own hopes for revenge against Philip for the destruction of her people. Philip asks for Mike's forgiveness. As Angela is about to pull the trigger on them both, she is downed by a shot from behind her. Glenda has emerged from the warehouse to protect her child. Mike and Philip shakes hands, and Philip destroys the borellium crystals.

In the back of the warehouse, Robert and Glenda wait for Philip's shuttle which is going to take them to a South Pacific island away from Diana's revenge. Willie prepares a bath of motor oil and rock salt for the baby, while Robert thanks Mike and Kyle (whose wounds are bandaged and who appears to be recovering) for everything they have done.

Aboard the Mothership, Diana and Lydia wait for Philip's shuttle to arrive, which they assume will be carrying Philip's body and Angela. Diana has Lydia arrested, and plays the tape she had made of Lydia ordering the assassination of Philip. Both are shocked to see Philip walking calmly across the shuttle bay. He reveals that Angela had died when she got in the way of his shot at Donovan, and announces that he will be staying around.

"War of Illusions"

March 08, 1985

Review:

In a post-coital embrace, Diana and James discuss the arrival of the Battlesphere, programmed with the Leader's specific battle plans to crush the Resistance once and for all.

On Earth, Philip meets with Kyle and Mike. Kyle mistrusts Philip, who tells Mike that he knows that Martin would want him to aid the Resistance. Philip warns the Resistance of the arrival of the computerized Battlesphere, which will be programmed to mount a blitz that will destroy the entire Southwest. Since the attack is scheduled to begin in 36 hours, Philip agrees to attempt to get a copy of the attack plan. Kyle and Mike attempt to find Kyle's friend Dr. Atkins, a former cybernetic professor at Cal Tech who was an associate of Nathan Bates, who they hope will be able to use his computer skills to break into the Battlesphere's computer memory and alter the attack plans, since Juliet is away in Fresno.

Lt. James is seen leading a patrol on Earth. And a party is held on the Mothership for the dual purpose of celebrating both the Visitor holiday of Schluta and the arrival of the Battlesphere. Diana toasts Philip, and informs him that she had sent Lt. James to Earth to search for a hacker that has been tapping into the Visitors main computer. A tipsy Lydia drapes herself over Philip. Diana and Philip are called away from the party when the Leader's battle plan arrives on the bridge. James reports in to Lydia, assuring her that, though the hacker was not found, the area is being monitored. The Leader attempts to send his plans to the Battlesphere, but the first attempt is unsuccessful due to the hacker. James informs Diana that his men are monitoring the transmission and that they will triangulate on the signal and catch the hacker.

In a small food store on Earth, Dr. Atkins son Henry shows his father what he has done with his computer -- he has hacked into the main Visitor computer, taught himself their language and can even translate what he finds. Dr. Atkins feels that they must bring the information to the Resistance, but before they can the Visitors arrive. Dr. Atkins forces Henry to leave alone, knowing that if they find only Dr. Atkins in the store they will not search further, and one of them must survive. Henry escapes and watches his father being taken into custody along with other residents of the street.

James sends a message that the raid was unsuccessful, and Philip begins to question Lydia about Diana's capabilities. Lydia orders Diana to be sent to her quarters. Diana receives the order just as she is choosing a consort from among three male human prisoners that Oswald has provided. She orders them to be scrubbed and oiled before heading to meet Lydia in Lydia's cabin, where she informs Lydia of Dr. Atkins capture and confession. Lydia doesn't believe that Atkins is the hacker, and orders his interrogation.

Atkins is brought to a computer room and hooked into an interrogation device. He makes three attempts to hack into the system, and fails. Diana then activates the interrogation device, which produces a photo based on images from his brainwaves revealing the hacker to be Henry. Lydia informs Lt. James.

Using stealth and making sure that he is not seen, Philip enters the Battlesphere computer room and steals the Leader's battle plans.

Mike, Kyle, and Elizabeth find that Dr. Atkins store has been attacked and boarded up, but Elizabeth senses that the attack was recent and that Dr. Atkins was taken away. Sending her back to wait with Willie in the van, Mike breaks into the store while Kyle heads to the back. Once inside, Henry jumps up from behind the counter and holds a gun on Mike, but Kyle enters from the back and stops him. Henry fills them in, and activates the computer to show what he's done. The activation brings James and his men. The Resistance are able to avoid a battle when Henry leads them through a secret entrance in the back room.

While the others wait at a restaurant, Mike scopes out an abandoned maintenance shed at an airfield, and discovers that the prisoners are being held there. Henry refuses to help the Resistance unless they will rescue his father, and the Resistance plans a raid on the maintenance shed. Mike and Kyle knock out the guards, and Mike gets inside to the prisoners. Henry is shattered when all the prisoners are released and his father is not among them.

The next morning, Philip meets with Mike and hands over the Leader's battle plans. He tells Mike that he knows that Mike and the others suspect him of treachery, and that he hopes to prove himself by providing the plans and information. He explains that the attack co-ordinates are all controlled by computer and that the invasion is set to start in 6 hours. Philip says that he will attempt to free Dr. Atkins from the Mothership, but when Mike reports this to Kyle and Henry, the boy doesn't believe it, and wants to give himself up to save his father. Kyle takes him aside and speaks to him about Dr. Atkins' hopes for his son, and convinces Henry to help the Resistance.

The Battlesphere detects an unauthorized entry into its memory components, and Diana and Lydia realize that the battle plans have fallen into the hands of the Fifth Column. Philip covers by accusing Lydia of incompetence, since she is in charge of security. However, the plans cannot be altered once they are in the Battlesphere. Lydia orders the guards doubled at all Earth computer facilities, and Diana orders Lt. James to personally guard Science Frontiers, the most likely target of the Resistance.

The Resistance have no problem getting into Science Frontiers and make it into the elevators, only to be stopped by Lt. James and his men. The elevator door won't close, and Willie realizes the power has been cut. Mike and Kyle lower their weapons to the floor, but Elizabeth uses her powers to shut the doors and activate the elevate. She collapses into Kyle's arms, while Lt. James, shocked, orders some men to remain at the elevator while he takes others and goes to the stairs.

Once they are on the 19th floor computer area, Mike throws a grenade into the elevator and then has Elizabeth send it back down to the main floor. Kyle and Elizabeth take Henry to the computer room, while Willie and Mike head to the stairwell to wait for Lt. James and his men. The elevator reaches the ground floor and the remaining Visitors troops rush in, only to be blown back by the force of the grenade's explosion.

Henry hooks his computer up to the main Science Frontiers system, but he cannot do anything because the power has been cut. Once again, Elizabeth uses her powers to activate power on the 19th floor. Henry hacks into the Visitor system, but can't get into the Battlesphere. Frustrated, he almost gives up but Elizabeth convinces him to keep trying.

On the Mothership, Lydia and Diana confront Philip with an internal security report on the theft of the battle plans. A sentry had gone to see Philip the night before to find that Philip was not in his cabin . . . at the same time the battle plans were stolen. Philip informs them that he does not have to justify his whereabouts to his sub-ordinates, and that he will be leading an inquiry into the lack of proper military procedures on board the ship. He leaves the bridge and manages to get Dr. Atkins out of his detention cell and into a fighter, where a Fifth Columnist will escort him to the Resistance.

Henry finally manages to break into the Battlesphere, and begins inputting his own orders and co-ordinates, causing the fighters to veer off course and crash. Lydia and Diana watch in dismay on the Mothership, unable to stop the slaughter of their troops. When Mike and Willie spot the Visitors on the stairwell, they are able to hold them briefly with a few grenades, then they fetch the others and leave the building. Outside Science Frontiers, they find Dr. Atkins waiting for them with a Visitor van, courtesy of Philip. Henry and his father are reunited, and Kyle tells Mike to pass along his apologies to Philip for doubting him.

"Secret Underground"

March 15, 1985

Review:

Lt. James greets a shuttle of Resistance prisoners and informs them that they will be used for experimentation. His squad captain has also obtained a computer disk listing the locations of Resistance headquarters and the names of their leaders throughout the area. Jonathan, a Fifth Column technician working on another craft, overhears their conversation and follows the captain to his quarters. Jonathan steals the disk but is spotted by two troopers, who shoot him. Jonathan manages to evade them and makes his way to the Romalon room, a hall being decorated for the upcoming Feast of Romalon. He hides the disk in a large sculpture, then stumbles back out to the corridor.

In another part of the Mothership, Philip checks in on Dr. Stephen Maitland, a human biologist working with the Visitors to develop a virus against humanity, in exchange for his freedom. Maitland assures Philip that the virus is nearing completion. Leaving the lab, Philip comes across the dying Jonathan, whom he recognizes as a fellow Fifth Columnist. Jonathan manages to tell Philip that the disk is hidden "in the volcano" before he dies. Hearing Diana's approach, Philip leaves Jonathan's side and re-approaches after Diana's arrival, wiping off Jonathan's blood from his hands before he does so.

Philip meets with Juliet and Mike to inform them of the disk. When he mentions Maitland, Julie flashes back to her time with him in medical school, when they were lovers. Since the Fifth Column cannot search the ship without arousing suspicion, Julie and Mike decide to infiltrate the Mothership to handle the search. Philip arranges for their false identification. Mike and Julie inform Kyle and Willie to carry on without them if they don't make it back.

Oswald prepares the Romalon room for the upcoming festivities. Later, he meets with Diana to inform her that her 'sacrificial lamb' has arrived, and to update her on Lt. James search for the disk. Oswald is told to inform James that if he doesn't find the disk, he will join the sacrifice.

Mike and Julie arrive on the Mothership with passes identifying them as visiting Visitor doctors. They are nearly seen as Diana and Lydia pass them in the corridor, heading for the bridge. Lydia is looking forward to the Feast of Romalon, and Diana assures her that it will be Lydia's most memorable Romalon ever.

Mike and Julie are taken to Stephen Maitland, who recognizes Julie but doesn't blow their cover. Mike accuses Stephen of being a collaborator, while Julie once again flashes to a moment in their past, when Stephen was making plans for their future that didn't take into account Julie's own wishes for a career. Stephen agrees to help the Resistance leaders -- he and Julie decide to search one level of the ship, while Mike takes another.

Diana arrives on the bridge with Lydia's younger brother, Nigel. Lydia's pleasure at seeing him again is short-lived when she discovers that Diana arranged his early commission and transfer to Lydia's ship. Asking Nigel his date of birth, she finds that Nigel is the youngest officer on board, which means that he will be sacrificed at the upcoming Feast of Romalon.

While searching, Stephen inquires as to Julie's relationship with Donovan. She tells him that they are just friends, because there isn't time for anything else but the war. She tells Stephen that she feels that she made a mistake by leaving him years ago. Stephen shows Julie the prisoners he has been testing the virus on, made 'vegetables' by its use. Julie is disgusted, but Stephen reassures her that he alters the virus so that its effect only lasts for 12 hours. He has been delaying his work until the Visitors trust him enough to let him work with the active virus, which is stored separately, and which he intends to destroy. Julie refuses to tell Stephen what she and Mike are searching for, and asks for his trust. As they leave, Stephen flashes back to the moment when Julie left him because she felt restricted by his love.

Lydia goes to Philip and begs for his help to save her brother. Philips informs her that the only way to stop the sacrifice is by unanimous vote of the ship's three line officers: himself, Lydia, and Diana. Philip agrees to vote to halt the practice, but concedes that Diana will be hard to convince. Lydia immediately goes to see Diana, who has brainwashed a young Fifth Columnist into revealing her contacts. Lydia tells Diana that she will do anything to save her brother, and Diana asks for Lydia's life in return.

Mike and Julie meet up and narrowly miss being seen by Diana in the corridor. Ducking into the lab, they wait till they think it's safe, then attempt to leave -- only to be stopped by Diana and her guards at the door. They feign surprise and confusion when they are arrested, insisting that they just arrived from the home world. When Diana accuses them of being human, they become irate and rip off their human 'masks' to reveal reptilian heads. Diana releases them and demands that her guards find out who ordered their human masks. Julie and Mike escape to a nearby lab, where Stephen discovers them removing the last of their Visitor 'masks'. Mike and Stephen continue to bicker over Stephen's role on the Mothership.

Julie heads to the Romalon room, where she overhears Diana mention that Stephen's virus is completed. Julie returns and confronts Stephen, who denies everything, insisting that he is just playing for time. He asks for Julie's trust. Stephen informs Julie that Diana knows about the Visitor masks and is looking for her and Donovan. He tells her that he still loves her, and they kiss.

After reminiscing with her brother, Lydia goes to see Philip and tells him that Diana suspects that he is a Fifth Columnist. Philip commends her for telling him, but doubts her loyalties.

Discussing their situation, Julie comes to the conclusion that one of the only places they haven't searched is Lt. James' room. She convinces the others that she must attempt a search. Arriving at James' quarters, Julie seduces him. She gets him to leave the cabin while she undresses, but he is stopped from leaving by the arrival of Diana and some guards, who take Julie into custody. Julie is taken to the Romalon room, and Diana orders James to get Philip. Juliet notices the sculpture's resemblance to a volcano. Mike and Stephen, in the corridor, overhear James' order to double the sentries, and realize that Julie has been captured. When Mike wishes aloud for his weapons, Stephen suggests that they make some weapons in his lab, which houses several volatile chemicals. Meanwhile, Diana informs Julie that all she has to do to save her own life and that of Donovan is to identify Philip as her contact in the Fifth Column. Juliet feigns ignorance of the name.

Stephen and Mike mix some chemicals in the lab, and Stephen insists that they destroy the active virus after they rescue Julie. Mike apologizes to Stephen for doubting him. Avoiding a Visitor patrol, the two men leave the lab.

In Philip's quarters, he and Lydia are still carrying on their conversation. Lydia tells him of Diana's brainwashed spy in the Fifth Column, and asks for his help in return. They are interrupted when James arrives to bring Philip to the Romalon room. En route to the room, they hear an explosion, and the corridors begin to fill with smoke. Diana leaves two guards with Julie and goes to investigate, while Philip, James, and a guard run in from the other direction. Using the smoke in the halls as a screen, Mike and Stephen attack the guards and Philip helps them to knock one out and drag them away. Mike puts on a Visitor trooper uniform and attacks the guards in the Romalon room, while Julie jumps up and searches the volcano-like sculpture. Mike dispatches the guards, Julie find the disk, and they escape.

Diana realizes that the smoke in the corridors was only a diversion, and orders all corridors and doors in the sector sealed. Mike and Julie manage to jump a pair of Visitors and place human 'Julie' and 'Mike' masks on them, while Philip and Stephen assist. They then go to the viral lab, where they set an explosion to destroy the Visitor virus -- which they will be unable to duplicate as it comes from the home world.

Diana is briefly stopped by the Visitors disguised as the Resistance, but they begin speaking in their mother language and Diana quickly begins to search again. Mike is able to use the time this bought them to lead Stephen and Julie to a ventilation shaft leading to the shuttle bay. They steal a shuttle and escape.

The Feast of Romalon is held. Nigel is placed on an altar as a sacrifice, and Diana prepares to kill him with a ritual sword. She is stopped by Philip (who was believed killed by the Resistance), who confronts Diana about her accusations of his Fifth Column involvement, and asks for her proof. Diana feigns ignorance, and Philip says that he will then charge her with mutiny . . . unless she changes her vote and abolishes the sacrificial portion of the Feast. Diana agrees, but swears that Philip is a traitor and that she will prove it. Nigel and Lydia happily embrace.

Mike, Julie, and Stephen meet up with Kyle and Willie on Earth. While Mike joins Kyle and Willie, Julie tells Stephen that she wants to stay with him. Stephen refuses her though, telling her that they still have their own paths to walk and believing that she will regret her decision. They kiss goodbye. Believing that Juliet is staying behind, Mike and the others begin to walk away, and are stopped when Julie yells for them to wait up. They happily welcome her with open arms.

"The Return"

March 22, 1985

Review:

Kyle, Willie, Mike, Juliet, and Elizabeth are chased down an abandoned street by a Visitor patrol led by Lt. James. They head into an alley that turns out to be a dead end, and are trapped by the Visitors. Elizabeth's powers have left her, and the Resistance decide to go out fighting, realizing that they will most likely be killed. As James' soldiers prepare to fire, they are interrupted by Philip's voice on loudspeaker announcing 'Cease all hostilities. All Visitor troops are to return to the Mothership immediately'. James is preparing to disobey the order until it is repeated, and his troops lay aside their weapons.

Diana storms onto the bridge irate at Lydia, but is informed by Philip that he ordered the ceasefire under the authority of the Leader, who will be arriving for peace negotiations. Diana accuses Philip of being a traitor, and Philip assures Diana that the Leader will not listen to her.

At Resistance Headquarters, Juliet confirms reports of Visitor withdrawal from London, Paris, and New York. All are unsure about this latest development. Willie leaves the discussion to find Elizabeth in another room, intoning in a deep voice in Visitor-ese. Kyle, believing that the Visitors are 'messing with her mind', quickly calls the others, while Willie explains that the Leader can communicate with whomever he wishes, and that Elizabeth is in contact with him. Over Kyle's protests, Elizabeth insists that she must go to the Mothership. When Philip arrives, he explains that the Leader believes that Elizabeth is the source of truth, as she is the blending of two cultures. Philip has been in constant contact with the Leader trying to convince him that their two worlds can live in peace. Philip believes that Elizabeth will enable him to see this. The Resistance agrees to let her go to the Mothership, but only if they go with her.

The Motherships are seen leaving their orbits all over Earth, and world-wide, celebrations are taking place. Diana wants to attack Earth again while the people least expect it, but Lydia informs her that she will serve the Leader in any way that he sees fit.

The Resistance prepare to board the shuttle to the Mothership, with Kyle indignant that they must leave all of their weapons behind. Kyle feels that he is the only one who doesn't trust what is happening, both with the ceasefire and with Elizabeth, who is dazed by her contact with the Leader. Though Kyle believes she is being brainwashed, Elizabeth tells him that, though he taught her about Earth love, she is now experiencing a far greater love. Julie feels that they can't stop Elizabeth, and they prepare to leave.

They are greeted on the Mothership by an honour guard, and met at its head by Diana and Lydia. Diana, Mike, and Julie share a tense greeting. Elizabeth is given a silk gown for her meeting with the Leader, and when they are led away Diana and James plot to continue the war.

Philip takes Mike on a tour of a Visitor gymnasium, where Mike becomes interested in a Visitor sport somewhat like fencing -- except that the swords are charged with nuclear disintegrators, where the slightest touch would mean instant death. Philip challenges Mike to a match with uncharged swords, which Mike accepts. When James reports this to Diana, she orders him to ensure that the swords are charged for the match.

Willie, wandering aimlessly in the corridors, meets up with Thelma, his fiancé. Thinking he was dead, Thelma is thrilled to see him, and assumes that they will take up where they left off years ago. Willie is led away.

Before the fencing match, Mike informs Kyle that he has a shuttle standing by in case anything happens to him. Mike orders Kyle to get Elizabeth and the others and escape if they need to. The match begins, with both parties seeming to be equally skilled. At a signal from Diana, Lt. James pulls a device from his uniform, points it at the duo, and activates the swords. A moment later Mike disarms Philip, sending his sword flying into a nearby boulder where it explodes. Stunned and suspicious, Mike touches his own sword to the ground, where it too explodes. Shocked, Philip announces that he prepared the swords himself, and Diana, acting incredulous, informs the others that she will investigate the matter.

Later, Willie is interrupted in the shuttle bay by Thelma. While she is full of plans for their future, especially since their marriage was arranged before they were even hatched, he is forced to tell her that he is unsure of his feelings and that he is going to remain on Earth. Thelma runs off in tears.

In her cabin, Diana berates James for botching the assassination of Philip. She plots now to overthrow the Leader, and tells James that if he doesn't remain loyal to her, she will inform Philip that the assassination attempt was all his idea. James agrees to remain with Diana.

Elizabeth, dressed for the Leader in a low-cut silk gown and with flowers in her hair, walks with Kyle in the corridor while he tries once again to talk her out of what she is doing. They kiss, but she tells him that she must go to see Philip, and then meet with the Leader. Kyle wants to go with her to protect her, and tells her again that he loves her, but she is not dissuaded. When Kyle leaves, Diana arrives bringing a message for Elizabeth and subtly flirts with her. Elizabeth rebuffs her, turns and leaves.

Elizabeth goes to Philip, telling him that her mind is full of 'strange and inexplicable images' and 'mystic rites of long ago' -- intense feelings that torture her. Philip explains that she is experiencing the racial memory of her Visitor ancestry, and says that he will teach her about the Visitors.

Mike and Julie discuss their situation, and agree that when the Leader arrives Diana will be finished. Julie begins to feel unsure about the peace process and the Leader, so Mike tells her of his escape plan.

In another cabin, James supervises two Visitors who are disguising themselves as humans. Activating a strobe light device, they take on the appearance of two human men. James hands them some kind of weapon, and they are told that their attack must look like the work of the Resistance. The Visitors are assured that they will soon be galactic heroes.

An honour guard, the Resistance, Philip, Diana, Lydia, and James are all on hand when the Leader's shuttle arrives. The disguised Visitors disarm some troopers on the catwalk, and activate their weapon, destroying the Leader's shuttle. Diana orders the 'men' on the catwalk shot, and declares that the Resistance have killed the Leader. She orders her men to arrest the Resistance and Philip, grabbing Elizabeth to her side. Kyle struggles to get to Elizabeth, when they are interrupted by a voice announcing the arrival of the Leader's shuttle. Philip informs them that he made the precaution of having the Leader arrive on a second shuttle, in case of sabotage. Kyle demands the return of Elizabeth -- Diana throws Elizabeth into Philip and Kyle, and she and her troops run off. Diana orders James to seal all doors, and he does so, narrowly missing being shot by the pursuing Mike, Julie, and Kyle. Philip and Elizabeth, who is still communicating with the Leader, follow slowly behind them.

Diana takes over the bridge and order that the infusion reactors be set to reach critical mass. An officer obeys, even though this means that both the Mothership and Earth will be destroyed. Diana feels that if she can't rule, no one else will be able to either. James dives through the bridge doors just as they are closing.

Willie,Thelma, Philip, and Elizabeth meet up with the others at the locked bridge doors. Realizing that Diana is finished on the home world, Philip figures out what she is doing, and leads the others to the reactor hold, hoping to shut down the ships power supply. Willie and Thelma are left behind to guard the first door. Thelma, fearing that they were soon to die, asks Willie if he ever loved her. They embrace and Willie gives Thelma her first kiss. He asks her to marry him and remain on Earth, and she readily agrees.

Mike and Kyle discover that their laser blasts cannot penetrate the reactor hold doors. Willie then arrives carrying a white robe, which is placed on Elizabeth. Philip and Willie realize that if the Leader designed everything, and the Leader is communicating with Elizabeth, he can use her to get through the door. While Philip attempts to speak to the Leader through Elizabeth, Juliet and Willie look for a ventilation shaft entrance to the bridge.

The Leader, using Elizabeth, blasts open the doors. Philip realizes that they cannot use their lasers for fear of damaging the nuclear infusion equipment, so Mike and Kyle attack the guards hand-to-hand while Philip keeps his laser trained on an escaping Diana. The two Resistance men disable the Visitors. Elizabeth arrives and Kyle smiles at her, only to have her answer in the Leader's voice: 'Good. Very good'.

Diana and Lt. James watch the arrival of the Leader's shuttle in handcuffs, but Diana vows to return to power. Philip and Mike pledge friendship to one another. When the shuttle bay darkens, Elizabeth begins moving towards its open door. Kyle tries to stop her, but is held back by Willie and Mike. Julie tells Kyle that she thinks Elizabeth needs to go.

Diana informs James of her latest plot -- she has had a bomb planted on the Leaders shuttle. Elizabeth goes into the shuttle, and as the door begins to close, Kyle walks away. The Resistance watch the shuttle leave, and begin to walk back to their own transport, when they realize that Kyle is missing. Julie realizes that Kyle must have stowed away on the Leader's shuttle, and they all gaze up at it in surprise.

"The Attack" Unfilmed

Review:

As the Leader's shuttle departs, Philip expresses his pleasure that there will now be a continuing peace between the humans and Visitors. Lydia is unsure, as she will always be doubtful where Diana is concerned. He reassures her, explaining that this time Diana's treason was against the Leader, and will therefore be dealt with severely, as told by the Galactic Codes. Both she and James are to be sent into the Cyclo Purgers, a point which delights Lydia to no end.

"Lydia," Philip warns, "do not enjoy these executions too deeply. My instinct tells me that's exactly the way Diana began."

Willie and Thelma run in explaining that they can't find Kyle anywhere. This reaffirms their fear that he stowed away on the Leader's shuttle. Donovan wants to go after him, but Julie warns that by doing so he may start the war all over again. Perhaps, she says, Kyle may convince himself that Elizabeth is doing what she wants, or has, to do. Willie emphasizes that no matter what, the Leader is too great to ever harm him.

"Really?" asks Donovan. "Then if he's so 'great', why does he have Elizabeth?"

A deafening silence is the response.

Meanwhile, Lydia checks on Diana and James' handcuffs, sarcastically noting that Diana has finally lost. As usual, Diana's confidence swells up, aggravating her rival.

In the Leader's shuttle, Kyle comes out of his hiding place in a compartment, and finds, with the exception of the pilot, the vessel to be empty. Armed with a gun, he approaches the pilot and demands to know where Elizabeth is. Suddenly he hears her voice in his head, and she explains that the Leader will allow her to bring him where they are.

Kyle slowly disappears, only to find himself in a limbo of darkness. Searching for Elizabeth, he sights, at some distance, the Leader, a towering reptilian with four arms.

Kyle demands to have Elizabeth returned, and when there's no response he raises his uzi, which mysteriously vanishes. She appears, telling him with her the Leader is "the sum of one. The total. The complete."

Apparently eons earlier the Leaders of Saurus were fearful that one of their people would grow too powerful, and so the Anyx, the source of their individual and combined power, were broken. A portion of the Anyx was brought to Earth by what has been termed the Ancient Astronauts. As half human and half Visitor, Elizabeth is able to make their Leader whole again.

On the Mothership, Lydia, currently in command, is informed that the Leader has rejoined his escort and all seems well. Alarm klaxons sound off at that point, however, just as contact is broken with the shuttle.

In the ensuing chaos, Diana orders Oswald to free her and James, to which he reluctantly agrees. Monitors detect the explosive device just as Diana enters the bridge. Lydia sees her and begs her to stop this if it's another one of her power plays, and says she'll do anything to save the Leader.

Diana plays innocent, and a moment later the shuttle explodes. She immediately puts the blame on the Resistance, this despite the fact that there would seem to be no sense in their doing such a thing at a time of peace.

Diana (and the method is a bit unclear here) puts herself in command, and states that Philip is in cahoots with the enemy. She wants to know if Lydia is with her, which she is -- provided her authority is no less than Diana's. Delighted, Diana puts out an order of martial law and an all out attack on Earth.

The ship's detention cell holds Donovan, Julie and Willie, all of whom suspect something must have happened to the Leader for them suddenly to be locked up again. Thelma brings Willie a ceremonial engagement cake, in which she's hidden magnesium strips. Kyle suddenly appears in their cell, vague as to exactly how he got there.

Using the magnesium strips, they blow the cell's door and move, alarms instantly signalling their escape. A door opens, with Diana and James standing there with lasers aimed. A blast finds its mark on Julie and she disintegrates (!). The others move back the way they came.

Donovan leads them to a series of air ducts, while an anguished Willie yells out something about Julie. Donovan sadly says that she's finished, and that she would want them to go on. They escape into the duct.

"Damn them," swears Diana. "I want this ship torn apart to find them, do you hear? Capture them at all costs!" James acknowledges her, and races off.

Later, while shuttles are readying to attack Earth, Philip is in the midst of a confrontation with Lydia and Diana, arguing that their suspicions against him are groundless. They agree to settle the matter at another time.

Donovan, Kyle, and Willie, dressed as pilots, approach a shuttle when Elizabeth appears on a balcony in the bay. Diana, seeing her, orders that she be captured. Troopers approach the Star Child, but she disappears again, only to reappear on another balcony. Frustrated, Diana says they'll capture her later -- after the attack on Earth.

But Elizabeth appears and vanishes again, with Philip explaining that he'll take some men and find her. He picks the disguised Donovan, Kyle and Willie off the line, and they depart. A moment later Donovan demands an explanation. Philip will give them one once they're in his quarters.

In seclusion, Philip explains that Diana's assassination attempt on the Leader must have failed, and that right now the first thing he has to do is to get the humans off the ship. They're concerned about Elizabeth, but the Visitor swears he will locate her and get her back to Earth when things are safer.

Donovan pulls a gun on Philip, saying that if they're caught he wants Philip to look like a hostage. "You don't have to protect me, Mike."

"I know," he replies sincerely. "I want to. We're still going to need a Fifth Column." Willie concurs, interjecting "Now more than ever."

On Earth, the attack has begun with skyfighters and laser jeeps unleashing savage destruction. Diana is pleased, noting that things are going much better than they expected.

As Philip and the Resistance members make their way through the ship, they hear Elizabeth's voice calling softly to them.

From the bridge, Diana and James see Philip being led at gunpoint, but she doesn't believe it for a moment, feeling that he is as much a traitor to their people as his brother Martin was. As the group continues, Diana hits a control switch which opens the floor, sending the four of them into the Mothership's compacting room (shades of Star Wars). The walls begin to close in on them. Elizabeth appears for a moment and attempts to help, but then disappears against her will.

In the area of darkness, she finds herself before the Leader again. Elizabeth wants Kyle to be with her, but he replies that this cannot be.

"You led me to believe Kyle could stay," she cries out. "You deceived me."

He replies that she should be more patient for she is a ruler now, or will be when she brings him the Anyx. Elizabeth refuses, citing the fact that she is of two worlds, and that she chooses Earth. With a cosmic effort, she dematerializes.

In the compacting room, Elizabeth appears and uses her powers. The walls stop their movement, and she passes out. Carrying her, they make their way through the panel through which they entered the room (of course, one ponders their reason for not doing so in the first place).

Witnessing their escape on the bridge monitor, Diana orders the landing bay secured as that's the only way off the ship.

Using Philip as a hostage, Donovan points out to James that the Inspector General is the Leader's best friend, and shouts that he'll kill the Visitor if they're not given free passage. Willie moves Elizabeth into a skyfighter, then leans out and fires a laser blast which finds its mark on James, who collapses to the ground. Donovan releases Philip and moves with Kyle into the skyfighter. The craft takes off under a barrage of laser fire.

Diana and Lydia enter the landing bay just as the shuttle leaves, and board a second one in order to pursue. Both approach ground level, with Diana firing several shots which find their mark. Donovan's shuttle crashes behind a hill. Diana (foolishly) believing her quarry destroyed, heads back to the Mothership, while the four survivors get out of the grounded shuttle.

As they approach the road, they see a so called "Road Warrior" type vehicle, and its driver: Ham Tyler. There is an exchange of reunion greetings before they tear off down the road.

On the Mothership, Diana is told that there has been victory on all fronts with it being only a matter of time before all key areas are secured. "The armistice," says Lydia, "lulled them into a false sense of security."

Diana is curious as to Philip's seemingly ill-at-ease mood. The Inspector General stands strong, explaining that he is her superior officer, and that neither he, nor his actions, are accountable to either Diana or Lydia.

In her quarters, Diana is contacted by the Leader, who brings her before him in his limbo of darkness. He tells her that Elizabeth has stolen the secrets of the Ancients and knows of the Anyx, source of all great power. With it, he emphasizes, she will become even greater than he is. In addition, the Star Child has the Syllabus of the Ancients, which allegorically reveals the location of the Anyx. If she finds it, Earth will rule over the Visitors. It is Diana's job to stop her from discovering it.

"If you fail," sneers the Leader sinisterly, "I will not be the first to die. You will go before me." She understands completely.

On Earth, the remnants of the Resistance stare at the disaster the Visitors have wrought. Donovan asks Elizabeth about the Syllabus. She hands it to Willie, who reads aloud: "Follow the wind for the source of all knowledge. To a place that lasts forever. Where your heart will sing."

She does not know where this place is, so it's going to be their job to work their way to it, through every city, town, farm, and village until Elizabeth's heart sings.

They acknowledge the war taking place out there, and also that there will be times when they'll be caught within its midst.

"That's the future out there," says Donovan. "Let's go live it."

"Breakout"

Review:

The episode begins behind enemy lines, in Ojai California. The setting seems pleasant enough - people are strolling through the park, children are playing in the grass. Pleasant enough - until one notices the omnipresent Visitor patrols. Mike and Ham, inconspicuously 'hiding in plain sight' in the park, are preparing a rescue attempt of Mike's son, Sean. When a child is caught spraying a "V" on a Visitor vehicle, the Visitor patrol pulls their weapons to fire. Mike cannot let the child be hurt, and attacks the Visitor. Ham belatedly follows - but when more Visitor troops arrive, Mike and Ham take off through the park. They take refuge behind some bushes, where they are spotted by Annie, a teenager. She offers them the safety of her house, despite the protests of her mother. Annie tells Mike that all the children from Sean's school were 'taken' by the Visitors, though no one knows where.

In LA, Juliet, Willie, and Elias remain concerned about Robin's disappearance. As Elizabeth begins to expertly play the piano at the closed Club Creole, Elias tentatively lets Julie know that he wants Elizabeth and the Resistance away from the club. When Julie vehemently protests, Elias backs down.

Back in Ojai, Ham and Mike leave Annie's house, only to be surrounded by Visitor troops who have also captured the child from the park. Annie confronts her mother, who admits to calling the Visitors.

At Science Frontiers, Diana confronts Nathan about Elizabeth, saying that her Visitor family wants only to see her. Seeing the picture of Kyle on Nathan's desk, Diana subtly threatens Nathan: Kyle for Elizabeth. When Diana leaves, Nathan summons a subordinate and demands that Elizabeth be found.

Outside of Ojai, Ham and Mike are taken to a Visitor Internment Centre, where Kyle is also enslaved. They are shocked to discover that the camp has few guards and no fence, only a sand moat. While Mike takes their bed assignments, Ham decides to check out the camp.

Robin, also captured by the Visitors, is working with Isaac at the other end of the camp. Mike, meanwhile, notices a wire running across the sand moat, but unfortunately when he throws a metal bucket at the wire, he discovers that it is a live wire. Ham, for his part, feels Kyle and another worker out about escaping. Ham is not impressed by Kyle, who he feels does not take escape, or Ham himself, seriously. Mike spots Robin, who has been trying to talk Isaac into not giving up hope of escape. While Robin reunites with Mike, Isaac walks into the sand moat; a horrified Robin tries to go after him, but is held back by Mike. Isaac is sucked into the sand by a green spiked creature - and the lack of need for a fence is thus explained!

On the LA Mothership, Lydia brings Diana the information she has requested on Kyle Bates. Using this background information, Diana is able to track down Kyle's location.

At the Internment Camp, Ham is assigned to cement duty, where Kyle explains about the sand creature, called a crivit. Mike tells Robin about her father's death, and Robin tearfully begs Mike to come up with an escape plan so that she can be reunited with Elizabeth.

Nathan, meanwhile, has come up with a plan to gain the Starchild - he offers Julie a chance to come up with a new toxin to use against the Visitors, and tells her that to do so she needs to use Elizabeth's DNA. Nathan believes that Julie may deliver Elizabeth to him.

Back at Club Creole, Elias has let Elizabeth play the piano for the patrons. When a Visitor patrolman sees the mark of Zon on Elizabeth's hand, she becomes frightened and runs out to the alley behind the club. The Visitors follow her, and Elizabeth uses her powers to influence two dogs in the alley, who attack and kill the Visitors. She is found by Elias and Julie, lying amongst the garbage, in shock.

At the Internment Camp, Mike asks Ham to come up with a diversion, which Ham is only too happy to provide. Ham throws a bag of cement at a worker, which prompts Kyle to jump him - and Mike uses the opportunity to steal a watering hose. As punishment, Ham and Kyle are imprisoned in a sweat box. When they are released, Ham is sent off to work detail, while Kyle is taken away by a sub commander. As Ham washes up, he sees an envoy led by Diana pull up to the camp. Going to warn Mike, he finds him ripping the hose into smaller pieces, assisted by the child from the park. They plan their escape for that night.

Diana introduces herself to Kyle as "a friend of your father". She has Kyle place a call to Nathan, and puts forth her deal: Nathan must deliver the Starchild by noon the next day, or she will kill Kyle. Nathan, who has been having Julie followed, orders a raid on Club Creole, hoping to find Elizabeth there. While Elias handles the raid, Julie and Elizabeth escape to Julie's apartment.

That night at the Internment Camp, Mike's escape plan goes forth. While he shorts out the wire, Ham begins sending prisoners up a nearby tree. Using the cut pieces of garden hose as a grip, they slide on the wire across the sand moat to safety. Kyle, still at the base, sees the escape through the window, and tries to divert Diana's attention by "seducing" her. However, while Kyle is kissing Diana's neck, she witnesses the escape attempt over his shoulder and calls for the guards. The escaped prisoners disperse, and one is shot. An irate Diana pushes the base commander into the sand moat. Kyle, meanwhile, fakes an illness and manages to overpower a guard and escape.

The next morning, Juliet is busy preparing breakfast for herself and Elizabeth when Nathan arrives. Nathan begs Julie's help in finding the Starchild, admitting that Diana has kidnapped Kyle and will kill him if Nathan doesn't deliver Elizabeth. While he is speaking, Elizabeth enters the room. Thinking fast, Julie introduces Elizabeth as her cousin Betty from Tucson. Nathan leaves without knowing how close he has come to the Starchild.

Mike, Ham, and the child from the park manage to stay together following their escape from the camp. As they are wondering what to do with the child, Annie appears and offers to take him to a mountain camp she has found. Before they leave, Billy (the child) speaks for the first time since the Visitor invasion, calling out "Gooder" to Mike, and flashing the Victory sign. Mike and Ham are forced to steal a skyfighter to get back to LA. A fierce battle in the skies above Ojai results only in the destruction of the pursuing Visitor vessel.

Nathan arrives at Science Frontiers to discover Kyle in his office. While Nathan believes that Diana has released him, Kyle explains that he managed to escape. Wanting nothing more to do with his father, Kyle refuses to speak further, and stalks out of the office.
