By Doug Hunt The family reunion was again held over the Independence day holiday weekend, July 4 thru 7, 2002 at the Adelaide Campground in Kanosh Canyon. The canyon road became black with "Mormon" crickets as we left the city limits and although some agency had sprayed insecticide, we shared our camp that weekend with the everpresent few hundred (thousand?) remaining creepy-crawlies. But the crickets didn't stand a chance of dampening the jubilant Carroll spirit. All were happy to be together again sharing one another's company. One of the highlights this year was Penny's "do-it-yourself bric-a-brac" (or whatchamacallit) table. Penny actually brought a kiln and ceramic items that we were able to decorate with decals and paint. It was a big hit with everybody. There was an open bar Friday night but I don't think anybody made it 'till closin' time. No wheelchair races were held this summer but we did have some free-style dive competition. Richard had the distance with his dive that began at the bar and ended in a face plant in the chairs across the street. |
On Saturday Evening we
enjoyed a roasted pig that had been simmering since 5:00 that morning --thanks,
Lee! The dinner was sumptuous, including other complimentary dishes
prepared by voluminous volunteers. I'd tell you the story of the
"pig pick-up" by Mickey, Carla and Wendy but I promised to keep a lid on
it at threat of my life.
As always, the park was perfect--plenty of shade, grassy areas and the stream within yards of us. We had it all to ourselves. We were spread out like a small community--the numbers continue to grow. Activities included 4-wheelin', volley ball, softball and the Carroll favorite, "jawin'". We had the traditional auction that made winners of several. Some of the prizes were porcelain dolls, T.V./VCR combo, and quilt. And the talent show featured some angelic voices and other gifts that were thoroughly entertaining. The business portion of the meeting was dispatched swiftly with a report that "there's money in the bank" and then current officers were reinstated by acclamation. Of course, the event was over all to quickly and
we were left feeling we should have started our goodbyes upon our arrival.
Until next time, God bless and keep you safe in His embrace.
