Giles Carroll Family Reunion 2000

By Doug Hunt

The Giles Carroll Family reunion was held July 1 thru 4, 2000 at the Adelaide Campground in Kanosh Canyon.  We had a great turnout and great time!  We had family from California, Nevada, Kansas, North Carolina and Okinawa!  We were entertained with volleyball games, beanbag toss, fish pond and the antics of a few "wanna-be" comedians.  Oh, there were water sports, too, that were entertaining if you weren't on the receiving end of the squirt gun.

Penny had scanned and printed some old family photos which she displayed in a folder.  It was interesting to review the past and get some of the older family members to identify the people and times.  I brought a copy of Amy Carroll Stark's, "The Section" and Evelyn Esplin Richardson's "The History of Charles Negus Carroll" for review.  These works are also available at the Carroll web site, Clan O'Carroll.  Tammy had reunion t-shirts printed.  They're white with "Carroll" printed in red and blue, in a stars and stripes type font--just like up town!  If you didn't get yours, they can still be made ( for a short time) at $6.00 each.

We had a family meeting at noon on Sunday where the 2002 reunion was planned and Officers were chosen.

The 2002 reunion will be held July 4-7 at Adelaide.  We will reserve all the campsites as we did this year.  Dues will remain $2.50/ year for adults, 18 years and older.  DuWayne will continue as President; Carla, Vice President; Tamra, Chief Financial Officer; Terry, Secretary; Carol and Doug will fill new positions, West Coast Envoy, responsible for contacting our California family members and Family Web Master, responsible for coordinating the web site information, respectively.  Sunday afternoon dinner was planned and prepared by Carla's clan and other willing volunteers.  The sweet aroma filled the campsite as I reluctantly departed.

A raffle was held afterward to help cover the reunion expenses.  Some of the prizes included Penny's porcelain dolls, hand-held color T.V. and a 35 mm camera.  I had to leave early Sunday but Carla promised she would deliver my T.V..

Of course, the best memories will be of warm greetings, and communal conversation from chairs gathered on the grass in the shade of the old maples.
