An Affair, of sorts...
It started about two months ago...my wife and I were playing cards at a freind's house and I caught a glimpse of her.  She was a shadowy visage, almost hidden among the weeds in the back lot.

I exclaimed, "Is that an Opel GT"?!?

To which my freind answered, "Yes, do you want her?!?...Please take her".

She'd been 'resting' out there for the last 7 years; before that, I don't know--there is an inspection sticker from '83 on the windshield.

My dream has been to someday own a classic Vette but, alas, their value keeps rising and my icome hasn't.  I've always liked the GT.  I thought her unique, ahead of her time.  Does anyone know what came first, the '68 Vette or the Opel?  I read that Opel was racing the GT prototype as early as '64.  Anyway, after researching the GT on the Web and hearing from other "Opelers", I was hooked.

On Saturday, January 4, 2003, my son Matt and I put air in the tires, removed the ignition (no key) and pulled her home.  She may not be a looker but I find I like her more and more each day.  She grows on you.

So now the work starts.  The paint is oxidized and peeling, showing her original yellow paint.  But I don't see much rust, the floor boards are free--looks like she received a heavy undercoating.  The front and rear bumper need help.  A front side and rear lens need replacement. The headlight mechanism works and all the glass is complete.  The interior is pretty thrashed; the dash and instrument panel are severely cracked, radio's gone, carpet rotted and the shifter boot's in pieces. This next weekend we'll see if she'll turn over.

I guess this is a diary of the affair...

Maybe one day she'll look like this!
