61. Benjamin Brossman/Brusman was born in 1776 in Heidelberg Township, Berks Co., PA. He died on 14 December 1857 at the age of 81 in German Twp., Clark Co., OH. He was buried in German Twp., Community Memorial, Lawrenceville, USS Cem, OH.

A blacksmith and then res. Hempfield Twp, Cumberland Co, PA, he purchased 26A 82P in Dickinson Twp, Cumberland Co, PA from Andrew Huston and wife Elizabeth on 4 Apr 1809. (Cumberland Co, PA Deed Book 1-T, p 83) He had this land Patented on 4 Dec 1809 per warrant dated 10 Jul 1752 to Samuel Swaney, called Avondale. (Book 1-AA-177) He and his wife Anne sold 25A 123P to Christian Coover on 28 Sep 1829, same tract, excepting 119P sold to William Ewing. (Book HMM-207).

His gravestone in Community Cem, Lawrenceville, OH, reads: "Benjamin Brusman, died Dec. 14, 1857, aged 81 years."

The information on the name change was provided by Julie Saltz. The spelling of the last name Brusman is most likely another case of the German accent and the miss spelling by a census taker and the spelling "took". This is now the third corruption of the original name Brossman that is found so far, the other two being Bressman and Brosman.

Benjamin Brossman/Brusman and Anne (unknown) were married about 1814. Anne (unknown) was born on 10 April 1780 in Dauphin Co., PA.¹⁶ She died on 3 August 1839 at the age of 59 in German Twp., Clark Co., OH.¹⁶

Her gravestone in Community Cem, Lawrenceville, OH, reads: "In Memory of Anne Brusman, who was born in Dauphin Co. Pa. April 10th 1780 and departed this life August 3rd 1839 aged 59 years, 3 months, and 23 days. Our friends will pass this lonesome place, and with a sigh move along, still gazing on the spires of grass, with which our graves are overgrown."
