In its first year of operation over the Rio Grande, Train No. 5, the westbound California Zephyr (including run-through cars for the Pioneer and Desert Wind) is looping through the mouth of Coal Creek Canyon. [This is the first image I took with my 35mm Minolta camera.] 3/24/1984
Train No. 5, the westbound California Zephyr (including run-through cars for the Pioneer and Desert Wind), has just exited the Moffat Tunnel on March 14, 1993. Today's train was running several hours late, and had a Cotton Belt freight unit on the point assisting the usual pair of F40PH's.
Train No. 5 makes its way west on the day after Christmas 1998. Here it passed through the cut just east of Rocky on the Moffat line.

Train No. 6 is flying eastward near Rifle, CO on March 23, 2002. This is one of the few areas in western Colorado that Amtrak can run all-out.  It has the usual eight Superliner cars behind a trio of P42 locomotives, plus a string of material-handling cars and a RoadRailer trailer on the tail end.

Train No. 4, the eastbound Southwest Chief, takes on fuel at Albuquerque on 2/07/2010, just prior to its station stop.

Train No. 4 is whipping through Perea, NM (east of Gallup) on 9/11/2010. Two freights have been diverted nose-to-nose on the opposite iron to allow the Chief to run past without delay.
Train No. 4 is flying through Prewitt, New Mexico on the morning of February 21, 2011. On this President's Day, Mt. Taylor is looming directly ahead (as is a westbound stack train waiting for the Chief's passage).
