Introduction to the Generations Tips series
Tip version 00.2
Revision date: 12 May 2001
Generations versions: All
This is to introduce an OCCASIONAL series of hints and tips on using Generations software.
I have served as a beta tester for the original Generations Grande Suite and subsequently. I am serving as moderator of the Generations Family Tree message board, and as co-moderator of the Generations Discussion email list. As a result of that I (and the other beta testers) have a couple of months more experience with the program than the rest of you. So it seems reasonable to share some observations. I've been using computers in my genealogical research for about 15 years or so, and I have been using Reunion for Windows and it's follow-on Generations since version 3.01.
So here will be my $0.02 worth on some features. I hope that you will find them useful. The success of this series of tips led to a series of continuing columns on the Generations software appearing in Everton's Genealogical Helper (1999-2001), in Heritage Quest (2000-to date), and in Genealogical Computing. (1999)
A note re the numbering of the tips. A revised tip will have a suffix on it and the highest number suffix will superceed all previous ones. For example, tip 01 deals with Backups, and tip 01.1 is the first significant revision of that tip. Each tip will have a line near the start identifying the relevant software versions.
