|Notes for Ruth L. (Spouse 1)|
|Her father was born in Norway and her mother was born in Wisconsin. The family moved from Wisconsin to North Dakota in 1906. She was living in Port Orchard, Washington, in 1975. The Williams County, North Dakota, history33 has an account she wrote about growing up there. It does not mention her marriage to Ed Halvorson.|
The death information and a possible precise birth date (31 December 1899) are from the Social Security Death Index (SSDI)1. That lists the issuing state as Ohio, which may mean that this is a misidentification. We had her birth in 1901 based on the census information, though it should be possible to check the date using Wisconsin record indices. It is possible that the SSN (294-22-7815) refers to her second husband, as widows sometimes received greater benefits as survivors (under the husband's SSN) than with their own benefits. It is also possible that this is a mis-identification.
The marriage license lists her age as 17, which would put her birth in 1902.
