Resided in Berlin, North Dakota. Age 48 years, 7 months at death. He is buried with his father's family, his grave is in row 5, grave 22 (transcription scheme2) of the Cemetery. It is in lot 53, grave 2 (official scheme8). Blue Earth county records show birth was 7 March 1880 but Theodore Laingen's diary has 13 June 1880. He was at the Commercial College in Mankato, then moved to Berlin, North Dakota, by or in 1906. He was living with H.A. Blatchford at the time of the 1910 census.

Lake Crystal Tribune, 2 February 1928, p. 1:

"John Laingen Killed at Tioga, North Dakota

A telegram was received by Chester Laingen Tuesday that his brother, John Laingen, had been killed by monoxide poisoning at his home at Tioga, N.D. The body is being shipped here for burial. Funeral services will be held at the Butternut Lutheran church this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Oppen will officiate."

Cottonwood Current, 3 February 1928:

" C. R. Laingen received a telegram Tuesday morning conveying the sad news of the sudden death of his youngest brother John, residing at Tokio, N. Dak., his death being attributed to monoxide gas. No further particulars were given, but it is probable that he was running an auto motor in a closed garage. The remains will be take to Lake Crystal, Minn., for burial."
