Notes for Østen Olsen (Hidemstrædet)
The godparents and witnesses at his christening were John G. Moe, John E. Lyngved, Syver Hidem, Sigred Moe, Ronnoug Brimi, and Mari Broodegarden.

He was listed as Esten in the 1900 census and his occupation was then given as a day laborer. They were living in Dkota Village in Dakota County, Nebraska, at that time. John Joyce and Lida Geyer were living on either side of them. They settled in Spearfish, South Dakota.38 Note that Spearfish is just a few miles southwest of Newell, which MIGHT be the Newell where Chester and Ragnhild (Rosa) Laingen got married. The obituaries for Chester and Rosa both state it was Newell, Nebraska, but I have been unable to locate that place. The presence of Osten and Thora in the Spearfish-Newell area now makes eminent sense for the marriage of her sister Rosa in Newell.

"AGED EX-NEMO RANCHER DIES

Osten Olsen, 90-year-old former Nemo rancher, died Tuesday noon at the Dorsett Memorial Home in Spearfish, where he had been a resident for the past year.
He was born Feb. 8, 1867 in Norway and came to the United States in 1887. Olsen first settled in Nebraska, where he was employed by a railroad near Blair.
Olsen was married May 4, 1888, at Blair to the former Dora Lainden, who survives. The couple homesteaded in South Dakota in 1910 on a ranch east of Newell. They lived there until 1925 when they moved to Nemo, where they resided until 1944 when they went to Spearfish to make their home.
Of the couple's thirteen children, six sons precede their father in death.
Those surviving include four daughters, Mrs. Arthur Guffey, Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Esther Klein, Casper, Wyo., Mrs. J. R. Parrish, Newcastle , Wyo.; Mrs. Elwood Mueller, Long Beach, Calif.; and three sons, Bert Olsen, Deadwood; Clarence "Jack" Olsen, Spearfish; and Louis Olsen of Long Beach.
Other survivors are 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a brother, Lars Olsen, Newman Grove, Neb.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Thursday at the Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Rev. R. L. Schlack, pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Rosehill cemetery at Spearfish."38

Notes for Thora (Spouse 1)
The godparents and witnesses at her christening were L. Arnesen, Ole Frisvold, Torsten and Ronnog Brimi, Gunhild and Anne Lyngved. She was confirmed on 3 September 1886.

I did not find their marriage in Lom through 1898 or in Garmo through 1901. But I may have been looking at too late a period.

She was living in Spearfish, South Dakota, in January 1946 when her brother Erland died.
