Else was confirmed in Lom on 25 August 1839. The confirmation record has her christened on 6 December 1824, an error. The confirmation record (b. 44) has her birthplace as Øye sondre. She had a son, Lars Larson, born 1852, from a first marriage. The latter was living with them at the time of the 1865 Norwegian census. He went with them when they left Lom in 1870. She left Lom, Norway, on 26 May 1870, with her family.

The date of her death is from her headstone in the cemetery.10

Misc. Notes
The godparents and witnesses at his christening were Anne Sonstadgard Andersdatter Lyngved, John Grohn, Hugh Rasmussen, Joanna Grohn, Anne Lyngved, Ragnild Grohn, Anne Laingen. The family farm was still called Laingen at the time of his birth. Paul was confirmed at Lom on 25 Oct 1846. He was running the family farm (Ladengen) at the time of the 1865 Norwegian census.

Witnesses at his wedding were Anders Lyngved and Paul Kvale. Note that Anders Lyngved also emigrated and settled in Lake Hanska Twp., Brown County.

He left Lom on 26 May 1870, with his family. He was called Paul K. Laingen in the church record. They sailed from Liverpool, England, on 8 June 1870 aboard the Montreal Ocean Steam-Ship Company vessel "Germany," which arrived in Quebec on 22 June 1870. Paul was listed as "Paul K. Langen." The family arrived in Chicago, IL, in July 1870 according to his son Knute Paulson Laingen's first citizenship papers. Knute was ten years old at the time. The route to Quebec, either directly from Norway or via Quebec, and then through the Great Lakes, was a common one for Norwegians emigrating to America.

Paul emigrated to the United States in 1870 according to the census returns. He received his first citizenship papers in Jackson Co., Minnesota. He received his second (citizenship) papers on 12 July 1876 in court at Cottonwood Co., Minnesota. M. L. Fall and Jay Lynch were his witnesses.

He owned land in Mountain Lake township, Cottonwood Co., Minnesota, (E 1/2, SE 1/4, section 22, township 105, range 34) which he sold to Jacob Dicte of Mountain Lake on 16 August 1876 for $800. This was the homestead land (application 6693) for which he registered the final payment on 25 Aug 1876. This land was adjacent to that of the Kjestad brothers. The deed is also important as it shows that his wife Elsa was still alive at this time. It is not clear where they moved after this, but he was a widower living with his son Knute at the time of the 1900 census.

He is listed as simply Paul Knudson (not Laingen) in the 1875 Minnesota and 1880 U.S. census, living with his family and stepson Lars Larsen in Mountain Lake Township (Town 105, Range 34).

He was living with his son Knut at the time of the 1895 Minnesota census, and was mistakenly described as grandfather, instead of father. He was apparently living in Butterfield, Watonwan, Minnesota, in 1909, according the Theodore Laingen's autograph book.

His death record shows his parents as Knute and T. Laingen.
