Notes for Thora Knudsdatter (Brimi)
The godparents and witnesses at her christening were Rasmus Ekle, Poul Rasmussen Ekle, Erik Anvord, Eldri Ekle, Berith Ekle, and Kari Ladingen.

It would be interesting to speculate that the John Moe, born April 1884, boarding with them at the time of the 1900 census, was her nephew, son of her sister Kari and the latter's husband Jon Jonsen (Mo). But that couple are seen having children in the Lom church records in 1886 and 1888, while John Moe was born in Illinois. The 1900 Norwegian census records show that Jon Jonsen (Mo) moved to Chicago between 1888 and 1890, and was in Minnesota in 1893.

The 1900 census has her emigrating in 1880, while the 1910 census lists it as 1870. The Oslo emigration protokoll shows that she left in 1880. She has not been found in the New York passenger ship lists for the relevant period. Many of the 1880 Quebec passenger ship lists have faded badly, with many pages totally unreadable, so she may not be found on a passenger ship list.

She was not at the 1932 Laingen Family Reunion, unlike the 1931 reunion.

She was called "Dora" in her brother Peter's obituary.

Notes for Hans August (Spouse 1)
Hans Aug. Gabrielsen was naturalized in Cook County (IL) Court on 24 May 1888 (certificate #854). H. K. Brumie [sic, Brimi] appeared as his witness. This was his brother-in-law (or prospective brother-in-law). Hans and Thora married about this time, but I'm not sure if it had happened yet.

He was registered to vote in 1892, living at 632 Rockwell St., (Congressional district 3, ward 14, precinct 16), having lived in the precinct for 10 years, and in the county and the state for 11 years. He was not listed in the 1888 Registered Voter list [LDS FHL microfilm 1730745]. He was listed in the 1888-90 Registered voter list, living at 813 Washtenaw Ave., having lived in the precinct for 6 years and in the county and state for 8 years [LDS FHL microfilm1730753]. He was listed as a carpenter, living at 505 Evergreen Avenue in the rear, in the 1905 and 1908 Chicago City directories. He was living at 4235 Kamerling Avenue in the 1913 directory. Note that Theodore Laingen had a Chicago address listing for a H. G. Gabrielson in 1929.

The 1900 census has him emigrating in 1880, while the 1910 census lists 1870. The 1920 census shows it as 1881 with naturalization in 1882.

They were living at 4204 Hamburg in 1920.

Hans and Thora attended the Laingen Family Reunion at Minneopa State Park outside Mankato, Minnesota, on 16 August 1931. Hans, along with children Rose, Edward H., and grandchildren Emma and Edward Jr. attended the next reunion at Sibley Park, Mankato, Minnesota, on 21 August 1932. Hans was one of those giving talks on Norway and on emigrating at both the 1931 and 1932 reunions.

They were living at 1401 N. Keeler at the time of the 1937 Lurie Index.
