Notes for Svend Nilsen Dovre
The godparents and witnesses at his christening were Marit Knudsdatter Dövre, Isak Evensen ib., Peder Knudsen Rannen, Marit Larsdatter Dovreli, and Kari Engebrestsdatter Dovre.

He applied for his first naturalization papers at Mankato on 4 April 189167 which shows that the 1900 census information on his emigration is in error. The witnesses when he received his second papers (citizenship) were H. Hughes and Hermann Knoff.66

They were living at 323 Fulton Street in Mankato at the time of the 1900 census. Their neighbors were Genge Yastheim and Dr. Samuel Snow. The soundex entry for them was not found as they were apparently indexed under his given name. Their family is only one on the page where the name is listed with first name, then surname, so the soundex indexers were confused.

They were living at 220 Carrol Street at the 1910 census, with Edward L. Henson and Olie O. Odjard as their neighbors. Olie Odjard ran the wholesale furniture company where Svend worked. The 1910 census stated that he immigrated in 1891 and that he was naturalized.

They were living at 308 Record Street at the 1920 census, and their neighbors were John W. Williams and John D. McLaughlin.

I did not spot his obituary in the index for the Mankato Free Press, which is however, incomplete. It does not cover the 1936-1940 and 1960-1973 intervals.

They are buried in lot 38A of the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in North Mankato. Svend is the lot owner. There is an Inez Bearscove buried next to him in the lot. It is not clear what her relationship is to him. Could she be a granddaughter? Try to find her obituary or birth and death records.

Notes for Rena (Spouse 1)
The church records show the birth as 18 October 1872 while the others show it as 15 March 1872, a large difference. The witnesses at her baptism were Knud Tostensen Strom and his wife, Thora O. Byre, and Ole J. Loften. Could Knud Tostenson be her uncle?

She was attending school at the time of the 1880 census. She was confirmed at the Linden Lutheran Church on 20 November 1887.

She signed Theodore P. Laingen's autograph book as Rena S. Kjestad, showing that she was his cousin.

Her estate was filed for probate on 28 December 1961 in Blue Earth County, Minnesota.
