Notes for Nikolaus Tarnutzer
He was christened as Klas. The godparents and witnesses at his christening were Hans Lötscher, Mathais Thöni, Maria Flütschin, Anna Ruoschin, and Margret Egli.

Nikolaus went to Paris in search of work when he was about 20 years old. He moved on to America about 1841 and was farming near Burlington, Iowa, when his father died. Upon hearing news of that he urged his mother to come to America with the children.101 He did not marry.102
