Notes for Peter (Spouse 1)
He was made a freeman on 29 April 1668, of Bass River. Peter had a good education if his handwriting may be considered as evidence. With his second wife, Sarah, he was received as a full member of the Beverly Church. Peter was selectman in 1675 and 76. On Nov. 16, 1686 he was elected Deacon. It was during his incumbency in this office that the witchcraft delusion swept over Salem and it is related of him that he kept his horses saddled to assist the persecuted to flee to New Hampshire out of the jurisdiction of the court. Peter lived on the family homestead that remained in the family until 1898. A deed dated March 13, 1681-2 from his brother-in-law John Hill and wife Abigail (2) Woodbury (his sister) conveyed all the land she had inherited of their father John, viz. 25 acres, upland, bounded by Woodbury, Dodge and Balch.642

The Charles Levi Woodbury source states the following on Pg. #60

"In 1696-97 PETER WOODBURY bought a lot of land from JOHN RAYMENT. At some time, the deed not on record, he had purchased of EXERCISE CONANT another tract of land. He names these children in his will: SARAH wife of GEORGE RAYMENT; ABIGAIL LAMSON; ANNA, wife of JOHN HERRICK; MARTHA BROWN; JERUSHA RAYMOND; 2 unmarried PRISCILLA and REBECCA.

Tracing of his headstone:
"Here lies ye body of Peter Woodbury aged sixty-four years, died July ye 5th 1704"723, 724, 644
