Notes for Capt. Leonard Hoar
One of the original proprietors of Brimfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts. He bought the forty acre lot of Nathaniel Hitchcock on Tower Hill in Brimfield. Brimfield was settled on 22 Sep 1701 and his claim for 120 acres was confirmed 18 June 1731. His tombstone in the northwest corner of the Old Brimfield Cemetery was still legible in 1967. D.W. Hoare also had his year of birth as 1684.151

Selectman for Brimfield various times 1734-1753. Virkus states that he was Trustee in 1731; served in the Indian Wars; representative to the General Court 1729-1731.

See the notes for Sarah Hoar (b. 3 September 1710) for the reasons why she is not believed to be a child of Leonard and Esther (Hubbard) Hoar, as stated by Hyde157, apparently following the data as given by Shattuck in the latter's History of Concord.

Buried in the old section of the Brimfield Center Cemetery, row 2, plat 14.
"Capt. Leonard Hoar who died Apr. 1771 in the 87th year of his age."153
Notes for Esther (Spouse 1)
Elsie Thoreson has her as the daughter of Daniel Hubbard and Esther Rice and widow of a ----- Bowman, and born in 1685. Ellis has her daughter of Daniel and Esther (Rice) Hubbard, born 17 Jan 1685.155

These are in contrast to Edgar Hobart's statement that she was baptized in Cambridge on 19 October 1683.152 Lawson follows the latter date.156 These are contradicted by the fact that Capt. Leonard Hoar married widow Esther Bowman, so any lookup of a child Esther Bowman is incorrect.
