Notes for Lt. Nathaniel Hitchcock
He was one of the original settlers of Brimfield, Massachusetts, moving from Springfield, as did all the early settlers. He appears to have been the first to have spent the winter in Springfield with his family, in 1714. Nathaniel and his brother David and son Moses were among those in the initial distribution of lands at Brimfield.

One of the offices he had held in Springfield was highway surveyor. He became a large landholder and was described as a gentleman on several deeds. He was involved in numerous land purchases and sales.
