Goldwing One

As the base ship for the interstellar bounty hunter known as Goldwing, Goldwing One has seen many adventures.

Though he went through several designs, this model conversion kind of designed itself along the lines of the schematics.

The model itself started life as a Testors SR-75 Penetrator. In looking at the illustrations on the box, I thought it might come close to what I had in mind for 'Wing.

I started construction by building the main part of the aft section according to the kit's instructions. Seeing possible balance problems along with size problems, I opted to build her with the landing gear retracted.
With the aft section complete except for the wings, I began my customizations by removing about two inches from the middle of the fuselage.
After matching that up and filling any gaps with clay and putty, I turned my attentions back to the rear of the plane. I chopped a section out of each wing, and then adjusted the angle on the wingtipos so that it was more shallow.
I then glued the wings into place upside down and reversed, which gave it a "forward swept" look.
Using the piece I had removed from the fuselage as a start, I added the "hyperdrive" unit to the top of the aft fuselage. The openings in both ends were covered in sheet styrene and then details were added with parts from my spares box.
With construction complete, I gave the entire model a base coat of Testors Flat Black spray paint. The gold stripes were masked off with tape and painted by hand using Ral Partha's Gold Metallic.
For a bit of detail, I hand painted the letters "GOLDWING ONE" in red through the stripes on both sides of the fuselage. The cockpit windows were painted on in Ral Partha Aged Metal, while the thrusters were painted with Ral Partha Steel. The hyperdrive pod was detailed with Steel as well. As a final touch, I added a couple of dry-transfer Firebird decals to the upper body and one wing.

I have acquired a second SR-75 kit which I may use to create a similar, yet different, version of this ship.
