USS Richtofen NCC-17523

The Nogura class was designed as an upgrade of the old Larson class ships. It utilizes element of the Excelsior class starships in an effort to deliver increased performance. The Richtofen, pictured here, is painted red according to a tradition started by its Larson class predecessor

I started with the saucer from a spare Excelsior kit I had. I modified it to accomodate the plywood hull additions necessary to create the Nogura class hull.

The design called for an "a frame" assembly for the warp struts. These were fashioned from cardboard and attached to the ship's single nacelle.

The ship was given a base coat of grey, followed by coats of white and then the final red.

The color scheme was based on a model that Jim Stevenson built of the Larson Class USS Richtofen and followed similar lines. I used Ral Partha's Dragon Scale Red for the accents that weren't white.
All markings were done on typing paper that was glued to the model with Elmer's glue.(It looks a lot better than it sound, honest)
