This ship was designed back in 1992 and the model was built about 6 months later. I used a modified Ent-A saucer and stock nacelles. The hull additions were built with balsa and styrene.
| This ship was basically the result of a structural analysis of the USS Intrepid NCC-1907 model I had built earlier. I figured that the long, narrow strut was too weak, so I made it shorter and wider. I relocated the navigational deflector to the strut and moved the photon tubes to the front of the saucer. | ![]() |

The hull extension was originally built up with balsa and then "skinned"
with sheet styrene. Any areas that were designed for light to shine through
were left unbacked by balsa(i.e. the hangar deck). The deflector pod was
carved from balsa and then sealed with white glue. The nacelle struts were
made from balsa and skinned with styrene. Due to the fact I had originally
intended the saucer to be part of a Stargazer conversion, I had trimmed the
entire rim from the saucer. This caused me to have to build the rim back
up from scratch. Again I used balsa to do this.
The entire model was then painted white with the appropriate detail colors added by hand. The hull markings were hand drawn with a series of red and black marking pens. This model was, at one time, lit. The lights have since been removed while I wait to build a second version without some of the flaws of the first. This version wound up as the battle-scarred ship from my short story about the ship. |
