Shortly after the first Khitomer Conference, the Pegasus class starship,
USS Odysseus, was attacked by three Klingon vessels. She barely survived
the encounter, only to wind up adrift for the next 78 years.
As the time came to build the updated version of this ship, I looked at the
poor, battered model of the original and decided that restoration would be
too much work. With that decision made, I opted to turn the model into the
ship from the short story I was writing.

The starboard strut was already bent before I started into my damage frenzy, so I incorporated a major hit to the rear of that section. several other hits were added with judicious use of model glue and matches. Basically, you put a small amount of glue onto the area to be damaged, and light it before the glue has a chance to dry. Let it burn until the level of damage is where you like. I tipped the ship to then make the flames and smoke travel down its length in much the same way that the model for the Constellation was created for "the Doomsday Machine." |
| Throughout my damaging, I used flaws in the kit as a guide on where to damage the hull. Most of the areas on the underside of the ship that recieved battle damage were showing bare balsa from the original construction and subsequent removal of the base and electronics. I had also damaged the ship during the last time I moved, and used that damage as a guide as well. The end result is a fairly convincing "battle-damaged" ship | ![]() |
