ISS Excalibur NX-71711

This one started out as another of my "what do I do with these spare parts?" models.
I had several parts left over from the Quasar project that were going to otherwise collect dust.

I decided early on that I was going to come up with some kind of "dreadnought" configuration for the parts.
I then sat down with my graph paper and a mental list of available parts to come up with this rough schematic.
As I was running a Star Trek role-playing campaign at the time, I opted to make her a ship from a version of the Mirror, Mirror universe where the Empire did not fall, but flourished instead.
Basic construction started with my building the saucer, secondary hull, and nacelles stock.
The old strut section was then carefully removed from the secondary hull in order to accommodate my new styrene struts.
The new strut assembly was then constructed from sheet styrene and the struts angled with careful application of heat. A slot was cut in the back of the hull for the vertical strut, and the aft section was assembled without nacelles.
The secondary hull was then glued to the underside of the saucer along with the E's photon launcher assembly. The juction between saucer and secondary hull was filled with a combination of clay and aluminum foil.
When that was dry, the nacelles were added to the assembly.
Painting started with a grey undercoat.
Using the E as a guide, I went in and added some darker grey sections all over the ship in an effort to detail it.
The warp nacelles, navigational deflector, and impulse engines were detailed in red and light blue and the ship was basically complete except for markings.

I'll get more pics of this once I finally get the hull markings completed and applied.
