The Baracus class started life as basically a prototype design study and was never intended to go into production. It utilized the Saucer from the refit Excelsior and the nacelle style of the refit Constitution class ships. The Baracus was put into production in the event of war with either the Klingons or the Romulans. In the end, only four of these ships were built.
The Baracus class derives its unusual name from the A-Team character of B.A. Baracus. I came up with the name based on the "B" hull and the "A" nacelles.
