T.E. Olsen A Man of Great Faith
'Eph' did not worry about day-to-day concerns. One of his interesting pieces of advice regarded a health remedy he recommended. If you were having a heart or health problem he would tell you that you should go soak your feet in the cool waters of the Snake River. Good advice when you consider today's finding about how stress can adversely affect our heath and how relaxation can make us healthier. I assume that TE also had a fishing pole in his had while he was soaking his feet. He loved to fish. I remember seeing a large cane pole that he used to fish with.
Serving the Lord Comes First
Eph was called on a mission when he had been married five years. What a sacrifice he made to go and leave his new farm and young family. Image the concerns of his young wife about taking care of a farm and young children for two years while her new husband was far away. The strong Olsen tradition of family helping family prevailed when Eph's brother Joe volunteered to take care of the farm and family so Eph could go.
The
Olsen Brothers Work TogetherThis is a photo of a 33 horse power combine the Olsen brothers did contract harvesting with. The brothers formed a coop to raise the money to buy and run the combine. A newspaper article reported it was the largest combine in the Intermountain West.
The picture to the left show what the teamster saw as he attempted to keep all the horses pulling in the same direction. Some walked along side of the horse shaking a sack full of rocks to keep the horses moving.
Eph Trusts in the Lord
It was said by Eph's neighbors that if they could plant a crop by Eph's they would get a good harvest. This inferred hat because Eph faithfully paid a full tithing (10% of his yearly income) they could benefit from his sacrifice, faith and obedience. In all of his dryfarming, TE never suffered one dramatic loss in all his years of farming. Someone once asked Eph if he had crop insurance. He responded that he didn't believe in it - he just paid his tithing.
