Baadsgaard Children

Baadsgaard Family Beginnings

had its beginnings in Denmark. Marinus Baadsgaard was born in Karby, Thisted, Denmark, a son to Niels and Nicoline Baadsgaard, June 28, 1871. Marinus' parents were Niels Peter Baadsgaard, born Sep. 7, 1836 in Logstor, Aalborg, Denmark. Mother, Nicoline Andersen, born Sep. 16, 1841 in Orndrup Mark, Thisted, Denmark. Marinus' great-grandfather was Peder Baadsgaard. Born Sep. 23, 1898 Logsted, A, Denmark. His wife was Larsine Breum in Logstor. The Baadsgaard's were mechants. The family name Baadsgaard means "boat yard." Marinus was the only son to immigrate to the America. One brother settled in Australia and another moved to Argentina.

Anders, Holger, Lauritz, Marinus Baadsgaard and the family business in Denmark.

Why Marinus left Denmark is not exactly known. Some say he wanted to join the army and his mother thought he was too young so he was sent to live with some friends in Omaha, Nebraska U.S.A. Two of his other brothers left at the same time, Lauritz to Australia, and Peter to Argentina. Some say they all three went to seek their fortunes. Grandfather had already earned his college education. We only know that he left Denmark in 1889.

One thing of interest I found out was that Anders, the oldest brother of Marinus, had a son named Svend Peter Baadsgaard born in 1895.

The Baadsgaard Farm - Beautiful Work Horses

The Baadsgaard farm was the show place of Utah County for years. Grandfather had a prize winning Gladiola patch and other flowers that he sold. It was said that on Sundays there was bumper to bumper traffic of cars as people drove by to enjoy this beautiful sight.
